ISSUE LEGISLATION

Postby San Martin Caballero » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:06 am

ISSUE LEGISLATION
(It's in order from most-recent to oldest)

Empress Alexandra Sexbunny is Goddess. All-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful and perfect in every way, and we all owe Her everything we have, including our very lives. Of that, there can be no doubt. However, it wouldn’t be right for Her to just wave a magic wand and fix all of our problems for us. The fictional “god” the Christians created wouldn’t do that, nor will our real, living Goddess, for many of the same reasons. Change can only come when two conditions are met. The first is, all of us – not just the government, but every single Caballero – all of us have to fully understand that She is always right no matter what She says or does. And the second is, we have to want to change. Goddess Alexa assures me that She fully supports religious and political freedom for Caballeros, in theory. However, as evidenced by legislation the previous regime passed which was supported by a large majority of the Caballero people – like the establishment of the office of the Caballero Inquisition, the mass distribution of deadly weapons to the general public, and the general anti-foreign attitude of Caballeros – the Caballero people just can’t be trusted with those kinds of freedoms yet. Therefore, Goddess Alexa has decided that, until we can be trusted to make the right decisions regarding spiritual matters on our own, it would be best for Her to make those decisions for us. So therefore, membership in and donations to the newly established “(San Martin Caballero) Church of Goddess-Empress Alexandra Sexbunny” is now mandatory, and all other faith organizations are banned. We should all worship and tithe to Goddess Alexa because we know it’s the right thing to do, but failing that, we must all worship and tithe to Goddess Alexa because, now, it’s the law. Goddess Alexa assures me that when She’s satisfied that we have changed our way of thinking enough that She can trust us to make the right decisions, the exact same decisions that She would make Herself, She will once again let us make these decisions on our own.
Furthermore, it bears mention that in accordance with this new law, all religious government offices are now legally under Goddess Alexa’s authority, including the office of the inquisition, which She further assures me She will run far more humanely and compassionately.
Tax rate rises from 1 to 2 percent

My fellow Caballeros, let’s not kid ourselves. Yes, crime is as low as it’s ever been, but it’s still a serious problem. So when some suggested making our nation’s children observe a curfew, an imperfect ruler might have authorized it, but our perfect Goddess-Empress Alexandra Sexbunny recognized the flaw. If our overworked police officers were too busy enforcing a curfew for children, how would they be able to fight crime perpetrated by adults? And furthermore, Goddess Alexa told me specifically that She has the utmost faith in the parents of San Martin Caballero to know where their children are and what they’re doing, and we need not burden the police with the responsibility.
Goddess Alexa was right again, like She always is. We struck down the curfew legislation and not only did crime not rise, the Caballero people now have greater civil rights than we’ve had since before the previous regime created our nationwide citizens’ database and instituted barcoding early in its administration.
Civil rights up from 24 to 27

Goddess-Empress Alexandra Sexbunny, I and all of San Martin Caballero mourn today for the loss of three of our fellow Caballeros in the recent suburban shooting rampage. Goddess Alexandra has personally told me that She hopes the families of the slain are able to find peace in their time of grief.
And our Goddess-Empress has also told me that now, more than ever, it’s time to act on the issue of gun ownership in San Martin Caballero. She has pointed out that for far too long, it has been too easy for deadly firearms to come into dangerous people’s hands. But this will not be the case any longer. However, She also assures me that becoming a completely gun-free society isn’t the answer either, since criminal elements will always find a way to obtain them. Therefore, the perfect solution is to keep firearms in the hands of our police and military personnel, but ban private ownership, which this government hereby declares law.
There’s one more thing I want to point out. When I mentioned to Goddess Alexa that San Martin Caballero’s previous regime would never have restricted people’s rights to private gun ownership in any way because the old Caballero government would have insisted that those without sin had nothing to fear, She correctly said that that idea was foolish. And, just like with everything else She does, says and thinks, She is absolutely right.
And I encourage all Caballeros to take a look around at their new country, now with far fewer firearms. Civil rights have not declined, and taxes have not skyrocketed. In fact, crime is now as low as it’s ever been in San Martin Caballero.
Crime rate falls from “a major problem” to “a serious problem”

Once again, our magnificent Goddess-Empress has shown us the right way! To resolve the debate of whether we should nationalize or privatize the postal service, She has showed us that we can have our cake and eat it too! We will keep a subsidized public service, but allow a private option for those not satisfied with the public service. And the greatest argument against this policy, that it would raise taxes, has proven false. I’m pleased to announce that Caballeros’ average income tax rate has remained the same as previous.

Since San Martin Caballero is now ruled by a female, the issue of equal opportunities for females has risen to prominence. It’s a discussion that’s long overdue in this country.
And we’re fortunate to be under the control of such a great and wise ruler as Goddess-Empress Alexandra Sexbunny. She has made it clear that a woman can do any job at least as good as good as any man. Her own success as head of state is evidence of that. Furthermore, She points out that in Christianity itself, for those who still cling to it, God created Eve from Adam’s rib, to walk beside him, not from his back to walk behind him.
However, it would be just as wrong to reverse the traditional gender roles and make the female superior. So we have implemented “gender equality” polices for all businesses in San Martin Caballero. Let us all thank Goddess Alexa for showing us all the right way to think and feel. (Businessmen have been raging over recent ‘gender equality’ policies in the workplace.)
Tax rate rises from “unheard of” to 1 percent
Crime rate falls from “pervasive” to “a major problem”
Economy down from 96 to 94
Civil rights up from 21 to 24

In order to make the transfer of supreme executive authority from the President of San Martin Caballero to the Empress of the Sexbunnies legal, I first had to rescind parliamentary powers and outlaw elections. The result of these actions was to make my authority over San Martin Caballero absolute and no longer beholden to an electoral process.
I hereby take this authority and present it on bended knee as a gift to the one who truly deserves it, our sovereign ruler and owner, Her Royal Highness Goddess-Empress Alexandra Frederique Sexbunny I, of the Empire of Sexbunnies.
As our Goddess-Empress said, welcome to a new age, Caballeros! This country will no longer ruled from beyond the grave by the false prophet Jesus Christ, but the one true Goddess, Empress Alexandra Sexbunny!
Tax rate falls from 1 percent to “unheard of”
Political Freedoms down from 21 to 14
WA Category changes from “Corporate Police State” to “Iron Fist Consumerists.”

EVERYTHING ABOVE THIS LINE IS LEGISLATION
PASSED UNDER PRESIDENT FLAVIUS KIRKPATRICK

EVERYTHING BELOW THIS LINE WAS LEGISLATION
PASSED UNDER PRESIDENT LONGINUS CHEVALIER

I have rejected a call from certain Caballeros to put a ban on public smoking. Even though it’s understandable that non-smokers would be disturbed by the smell of smoke, there is no proven correlation between smoking and ungodly behavior, and there is no solid evidence that smoking is actually harmful to humans. Until such evidence presents itself, it wouldn’t be appropriate for this government to put a ban on cigarette smoking. (Eight year-olds can be seen lighting up in public areas.)
Civil rights up from 18 to 21

We all follow the news. We all know what’s going on both inside and outside of our borders right now. So when a prominent Celisian* agitator calls for the extermination of all the people of San Martin Caballero, we cannot allow that. As long as the speech is right and in accordance with Christian principles, San Martin Caballero is all for the freedom of speech, but hate speech, speech that advocates killing or hurting Caballeros, cannot be allowed in this saintly nation.
(A fashion designer has been arrested for inciting hatred after claiming redheads couldn't pull off vermillion.) *(The original text said “Bigtopian,” but I changed it to an in-universe enemy to keep it true to the RP.)

In order for this government to more-effectively perform its duties to both the people of San Martin Caballero and to God, I have rejected an effort to reestablish opposition to the Christian National Unity Party. Rumors of political activists being routinely executed are utterly false. (Political activists are routinely executed.)
Civil rights down from 20 to 18
Political freedoms down from 22 to 21

In the history of this government, we’ve faced a lot of tough choices, and we’ve made a few mistakes. Allowing the legislators to continue to set their own salaries comes to mind. And even more recently, we were faced with, I believe, another tough decision – whether or not to bail out our major industries after the recent stock market crash. Both sides gave good arguments. I do believe that the representatives of both sides are right-minded and holy with the Lord. However, in the end, I rejected the bailout plan. Saint Martin is the patron of businessmen, and maybe if the leaders of those businesses that failed had prayed to him and sought his guidance a bit more, they wouldn’t be in need of the Caballero taxpayers to bail them out.
It was a very, very tough decision, but I’m pleased to say, it turned out to be the right one. Taxes have fallen 75 percent, and I am a hair’s breadth away from fulfilling my promise to re-abolish your income taxes.
Your welcome, San Martin Caballero.
(Thousands of former welfare recipients are in a revolutionary uproar as the rest of society is enjoying a hefty tax break.)
Tax rate falls from 4 to 1 percent
Crime rate rises from “a serious problem” to “pervasive”

In a victory for both Christianity and personal responsibility, the BFG-69, colloquially known as “the organ grinder,” is now available for civilian use. The military has already purchased the advanced weapon, increasing San Martin Caballero’s defense spending by more than 50 percent (from 19 percent of the budget with a 3 percent tax rate to 22 percent of the budget with a 4 percent tax rate). I’m proud to announce that this weapon will go a long way in both helping to defend San Martin Caballero from the enemies of God abroad, as well as inspiring more Godly behavior at home. (The commercialization of highly deadly weapons has instilled San Martin Caballero with a very polite populace.)
Tax rate rises from 3 to 4 percent

Recently, a group of atheistic heathens proposed disposing “the watershed,” the hour after which adult material can be shown on television. Since I never watch television except the occasional news, financial or church program, and never after 9 p.m., I suppose I have something to thank these unholy parasites for – bringing the fact that there was a “watershed” to this government’s attention! Well, no more. All violent and salacious material is hereby banned from San Martin Caballero’s TV screens, so help me God. (Rupert Bear is considered to be the most risqué TV program in San Martin Caballero.)
Crime rate falls from “a major problem” to “a serious problem”

Finally, the legislature has seen its way clear for a desperately-needed defense budget increase. In the interests of national security, I won’t discuss the details of the package, but with this new budget, San Martin Caballero’s military spending has increased by 250 percent. (From 12 percent of the budget with a 2 percent tax rate to 19 percent of the budget with a 3 percent tax rate.)
Tax rate rises from 2 to 3 percent
Political freedoms down from 25 to 22

We all know what happened. Certain members of the media broke the 9th Commandment and bore false witness. As a result, the stock market took a major dive, and more than a thousand Caballeros lost their jobs. And of course, I hate to have to do this - the free press is a wonderful thing, as long as they keep God’s commandments - but when the free press breaks its covenant with God and the people, and they threaten the economic prosperity of San Martin Caballero, the free press must be reigned in. So from now on, all news media outlets will be nationalized. (All news sources are under strict government control.)

I apologize to my country and my God. I had no idea the situation had gotten this bad. Of course, I’m referring to the 20-fold increase in a particular sexually-transmitted disease. But fear not, my fellow Caballeros, your government is on the job. I have authorized instruction of the only sure-fire method of stopping the spread of this plague in its tracks – abstinence. All other solutions are either ungodly, prohibitively expensive, or, more likely, both. With Almighty God as my witness, I swear we will squash both sexually-transmitted diseases – and promiscuous sex – in our lifetime. (People have to sneak out of the country in order to have sex.)
Civil rights down from 23 to 20

It seems like I’ve had to remind the minority of this countless times during my administration, but I don’t mind doing so again. San Martin Caballero’s namesake, Saint Martin the Horseman, is the patron saint of businessmen. And this saintly nation has a Christian mission to perform here on Earth that can only be accomplished if our business community is strong. So, in response to recent lawsuits against corporations concerning the safety of their products, I hereby outlaw all lawsuits against corporations. Just as your avoiding sin is an individual responsibility, so is avoiding dangerous consumer products. (Corporations cut costs by taking away safety-features on their products.)

When I heard that the rate of depression-related suicides was on the rise in San Martin Caballero, and some were lobbying for using taxpayer funds to create a big-government solution, I, of course, said no. There is a very simple way to stop suicide, and it doesn’t cost the taxpayers a dime – parents simply need to tell their children and pastors need to tell their parishioners what chapter 3, verse 17 of St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians says.
“If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.”
In other words, suicide is a mortal sin, and those who commit it go straight to Hell. It is not possible for a government of mortals to enact a better deterrent to suicide than that, so the taxpayers’ duckets will not be squandered on such a futile effort.

Though we all want to live in a community free from crime, San Martin Caballero will not sell its national soul to the devil in exchange for it. That’s why I’ve struck down a legislative effort to create a database of DNA samples of all Caballeros, or at least require criminal suspects to submit to a DNA test. Both measures would simply be too expensive, and the people of San Martin Caballero render far too much unto Caesar already. And besides, if you’re right with the Lord, then you don’t have to worry about getting murdered. (Crime is on the rise as DNA sampling has been all but outlawed.)
Tax rate falls from 3 to 2 percent
Crime rate rises from “a serious problem” to “a major problem”
Civil rights rise from 19 to 23

It is tradition here in San Martin Caballero that we give our children Roman names, to emphasize our Roman Catholic faith. However, I was disturbed to learn that it’s become fashionable in San Martin Caballero recently for parents to give their children either non-Christian names, or worse yet, names that aren’t even names at all, like “Insert Name Here.” Well, no longer. From now on, all parents will be required to choose their child’s from a government-mandated master list, all of which will be of Roman origin, in accordance with this Godly nation’s fine traditions.

Under the guidance of the Lord God and with the help of the People Trading Corporation, I have signed a law transferring all convicted felons in San Martin Caballero to the custody of the good people at the PTC so they can help this Godly nation live up to the Law as delineated in the Book of Exodus, chapter 22, verse 3: “Anyone who steals must certainly make restitution, but if they have nothing, they must be sold to pay for their theft.” (Convicted felons are forced into slavery for their crimes.)
Crime rate falls from “a major problem” to “a serious problem”

I consider this a legislative victory. After the senate’s recent passing of their unpopular pay raise, which I made clear that this administration regrets, many voters wanted to initiate a referendum process to repeal it. Even though I agree with those who want to rescind the pay hike, I refuse to set the precedent of implementing a referendum system. It runs the risk of turning this Godly nation into a tyranny by majority that completely disregards the will of God. Furthermore, it cripples the senate’s ability to do its job, and it’s terribly expensive. Yes, taxes are now higher after striking down the referenda-implementation efforts, and I’m still trying to discern exactly why that is, but I have no doubt in my mind they would have rose even higher had I not stopped these efforts in their tracks.
Tax rate rises from 1 to 3 percent
Political freedoms down from 28 to 25

This government has come to the conclusion that San Martin Caballero needs to be a country of, for and by Caballeros. We do not make this decision lightly, and come to it only after seeing the preponderance of evidence that clearly shows that immigrants, even those who are Christian and therefore not subject to the holy inquisition, do not participate in or even acknowledge our saintly customs, traditions and social mores. The steady and increasing violence in immigrant communities was also a factor in our decision. Therefore, today, I have authorized the deportation of all foreigners within San Martin Caballero back to their countries of origin. (The word ‘foreigner’ is considered a highly vulgar expletive.)

I’ve had to make a lot of tough decisions in my time as president, but this one was very easy for a change. It was already ruled upon by the Book of Exodus, chapter 21, verses 23, 24 and 25.
“But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.”
Therefore, in response to the rising incidences of drunk driving in San Martin Caballero, I have made driving under the influence a crime punishable by death.

For the first time in my administration, I can honestly say that I made an err in judgment. When the legislature recently voted unanimously to triple their own pay, and many groups voiced their opposition to this measure, I stood by my fellow elected officials and gave their pay raise my blessing. After all, a pay raise could be considered God’s way of delivering them from the temptation of taking bribes. However, I did not realize that the measure would require an increase in taxes. For that, I take full responsibility, and I beg for my people’s and my God’s forgiveness. Furthermore, I swear that this administration will do everything in its power to re-abolish income taxes as quickly as possible.
Tax rate rises from “unheard of” to 1 percent
Political freedoms down from 39 to 28
WA Category changes from “Right-Wing Utopia” to “Corporate Police State”

With regards to the anti-establishment protests in Neo Tours today, people seem to be forgetting a couple of very important things. First, San Martin Caballero has a special mission to promote and defend Christianity in this world. And second, the namesake of our nation, Saint Martin the Horseman, is the patron saint of businessmen. Just as two plus two equals four, these two facts together mean that in order for San Martin Caballero to fulfill its Christian mission, our economy must remain strong and healthy. Therefore, not only do I have no compunction against sending private security agents to break up anti-business protests, I consider it my holy and righteous duty, no matter the color collar the protestors are wearing. It doesn’t matter whether you work in an office building, or an automobile factory, or a military base, your chances of salvation, and your duty to this nation’s mission, are the same.
Crime rate rises from “a serious problem” to “a major problem”

There was a problem. It was handled. Now the Caballero people’s political freedoms increased from “few” to “some.” Don’t worry about how or why. Let’s talk more about what we can do to better serve the Lord... (The government is a law unto itself.)
The government is rife with embezzlement and fraud as bribes and graft are accepted both blatantly and frequently by politicians and other government officials.
"It's really not THAT bad, is it?" asks the Minister of Commerce, whilst fiddling with a large gold ring and placing a thick envelope on the president's desk. "Maybe it’s all just a prank. Maybe it will all just... go away..."
Political freedoms go up from 35 and to 39

Do not believe the heretical propaganda! Some are saying “the government seizes all major gold finds,” but that is not the case. Lake Champion lies in state-owned territory, therefore, as the rightful owner of the property, any gold discovered there belongs to the government. And the divers who found the gold deposit for us have been rewarded for their discovery. So we are not “seizing gold finds,” we are standing up for the rights of property owners. It’s just a coincidence of geography that, in this case, the government and the property owner are one in the same.

The Bible is very clear on the rights of the “avenger of the blood.” That’s why, today, I have legalized trials by combat between parties in dispute. After all, the party on the side of righteousness will always prevail in such a duel, and even if the wicked escape punishment in this life, they will not be able to do so in the next. (Murderers frequently escape punishment by claiming they were protecting their honor.)
Civil rights rise from 14 to 19
Political freedoms rise from 34 to 35
WA Category changes from “Corporate Police State” to “Right-Wing Utopia”

The Godly Community of San Martin Caballero isn’t interested in relics of pre-Christian antiquity. That’s why I have signed legislation authorizing the destruction of ancient pagan archeological ruins for construction of commercial properties. This will strengthen the life’s blood of this Godly nation, our strong economy, without which we could not perform our Christian mission in this world. Don’t forget that our namesake, Saint Martin the Horseman, is the patron saint of businessmen.
Crime rate rises from “a problem” to “a serious problem”

I understand why health organizations are concerned with obesity in San Martin Caballero, and I sympathize with the firefighters who had to work for hours to free the... brawny citizens lodged in their seats during the recent movie theater... incident. But the simple fact is, a person’s health is the concern of the individual and of God, not of government, and if one is right with the Lord spiritually, then it doesn’t matter what his or her physical health is. Therefore, I have halted efforts to implement costly national exercise programs and heretical food service industry regulations.
Civil rights down from 15 to 14

San Martin Caballero is not a fleshpot! When the organizers of an international beauty pageant offered to hold their ungodly, vice-ridden, Gomorrah-esqe, pornographic display here, we said “No!” And to send the message to those who might think to harm this Godly nation’s standing with the Lord again, I have signed legislation instituting a dress code for Caballeras: long, plaid skirts with necklines that never drop below the base of the neck. I expect this will go a long way in cleansing this nation of sin. (Women who display their ankles are shunned by society.)
Civil rights down from 17 to 15

When the ungodly element of Caballero society wants to implement irreligious, humanistic policies, like taking away a married couple’s right to bear children or forcing them to conform to government-mandated parenting standards, this government says “No!” There will neither be parental licensing nor government regulation of parenting, and children in this Godly country will be expected to obey the Fifth Commandment. (Almost half of the child population lives rough on the streets.)
Civil rights rise from 14 to 17

Of all the great days I have presided over as president of this Godly community... there have been so many... today is perhaps the greatest. Because today, I have finalized legislation abolishing income taxes. Finally, the Godly citizens of this community need no longer fear Caesar’s coercion, and they are free to render all they please unto God.
Tax rate falls from 2 to “unheard of”
Crime rate rises from “moderate” to “a problem”

A great day in San Martin Caballero! Perhaps the finest piece of legislation in our history, and, though I know it's a sin I'll have to confess come Sunday, the proudest moment in my time as president of this Godly community. Today, the Caballero Inquisition has officially begun. I am overjoyed to announce that what few remaining atheists and evolutionary biologists were left in San Martin Caballero are now fleeing the country like rats from a sinking ship, and those left behind are being locked in stocks and stoned to death. A new golden age in San Martin Caballero has truly begun! Hallelujah!
Tax rate rises from 1 to 2 percent
Civil rights down from 16 to 14

To serve the dual purpose of ending the problematic crime in this country and saving the Godly taxpayers of San Martin Caballero more of their hard-earned money, I have implemented the death penalty for all criminals. If they are innocent of their crimes and right with the Lord, they have nothing to worry about, because they will be going to their heavenly reward. The offenders' property will also be seized by the state to further ease the tax burden on hard-working, Godly Caballeros.
Crime rate falls from “a problem” to “moderate”
Civil rights down from 17 to 16

The people of San Martin Caballero pay good money in taxes, and it would be immoral of this government to double charge them for the use of the roads their tax duckets provided. Therefore, I have struck down proposed legislation to relieve traffic congestion in downtown Neo Tours by implementing a toll. Not while I’m president of this Godly nation. Instead, we will expand existing urban road networks. (New urban roads are threatening city parks.)
Tax rate falls from 2 to 1 percent

I will neither sanction nor subsidize ungodly lifestyles. So when a coalition of expectant mothers agitated for legislation to get paid maternity leave at taxpayer expense, I said “no!” This would only encourage women to leave their traditional place in the home. I remind them of the Book of Genesis, chapter 3, verse 16: “To the woman He said, ‘I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.’” I rest my case. (The nanny industry has had a boom after maternity leave was recently banned.)

This government does not respond to threats, whether from foreign nations or the ungodly element within our own society. When a group of heretical Caballeros agitated for this government to subsidize their amoral lifestyle by extending them health insurance benefits at the Godly taxpayers’ expense, I said “No!” It was necessary, however, for our saintly military to prosecute the agitators, who did put up some mild resistance. But order has now been full restored.
Tax rate rises from 1 to 2 percent

To make politicians of the Christian National Unity Party more effective, I have signed legislation requiring opposition parties to reapply for recognition every time they fail to win an election. Opponents say this is an effort to stamp out democracy in San Martin Caballero, but this legislation does not end democracy, it strengthens it, because it makes the majority party, Christian National Unity, more capable of performing the holy mission the Caballero people elected it to perform. Furthermore, the legislation simplifies the election process, greatly reducing the burdens of democratic government upon taxpayers.
The tax rate falls from 3 to 1 percent
Political Freedoms drop from 40 to 34
WA Category changes from “Right-Wing Utopia”to “Corporate Police State”

To keep San Martin Caballero's agricultural industry as capable of performing its mission as possible, I have authorized the use of the most advanced farming technology. Do not be concerned with the surveys showing high pesticide levels in Caballero children. If the children are right with the Lord, no pesticides can harm them.

To preserve the sanctity of our democratic institutions and prevent a descent into anarchic chaos, I have struck down an effort to get "none of the above" listed as an option on ballots. Additionally, I have limited the number of options on all ballots to two candidates, both of whom will be selected by the Christian National Unity Party, thus eliminating any future need to waste valuable resources on runoff elections.
Political freedoms drop from 43 to 40.

To better help the poor to help themselves and to reinforce the message of 2 Thessalonians 3:10 mentioned two points below, San Martin Caballero has abolished all welfare programs. (Penurious citizens die from easily remedied ailments because they aren’t ‘taking enough initiative.’)
Civil rights down from 20 to 17

Today is perhaps the proudest day in the history of the government of the Christian Community of San Martin Caballero, because today, by the Grace of God, I have made the wicked sin of homosexuality a capital offense. Though many of the nation’s Catholic majority opposed this, enough Catholic legislators crossed the aisle to join the non-Catholic minority. I am honored to sign the bill. The book Heather Has Two Mommies will no longer be sold, and homosexuals need not apply for membership in this community. Praise Christ.
(Three percent of the Caballero population is now put to death by the state.)

To quote St. Paul’s Second Epistle to the Thessalonians, chapter 3, verse 10:
“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.’”
Therefore, I have rejected elderly Caballeros’ requests for more benefits at taxpayer expense, not because I hate the elderly, but because I love them, and in these the closing days of their lives, perhaps more than any other time, they need to stay right with the
Lord so they don’t ruin their chance at salvation. (Senior citizens can usually be found doing heavy manual labor.)
Civil rights down from 22 to 20
The tax rate falls from 4 to 3 percent
Interesting: The public sector is down to zero, and if you click on the “government” button, it says: “The Community of San Martin Caballero has no detectable government spending. The chart below estimates the priorities of Leader.” (Though its estimation is wrong, the leader is FAR more committed to defense than the chart claims, there just haven’t been enough defense-related issues to rule on to really give us the hefty defense budget we want.)

To better help the people of San Martin Caballero to help themselves, I have slashed taxes across the board. Some critics say the government only did this to cover up the problem of widespread tax evasion by legalizing the offense, but the Caballeros who refused to pay their taxes were right all along and true Godly patriots, and this government apologizes for its oppressive taxation to this point.
The tax rate falls from 11 to 4 percent
Crime rate falls from "a problem" to "moderate"

This government does what it can, but we acknowledge that the true caretakers of the moral health of our nation’s children are our nation’s parents and teachers. Therefore, the government has struck down proposals by “child protection” agitators and issued a statement standing by our parents’ and teachers’ rights to discipline their children as they see fit. (Record sales of ‘child-whacking sticks’ have been recorded.)
Civil rights rise from 18 to 22
Crime rate falls from "a problem" to "moderate"
The tax rate falls from 12 to 11 percent

An art gallery recently featured an exhibit displaying provocative nude portraits, so to stop this rising tide of moral decay and keep San Martin Caballero right with the Lord, I have banned all art from this Godly nation. I applaud the jailing of pornographers who call themselves “artists” and encourage the “art-burning parties” that are becoming common.
Civil rights drop from 22 to 18

After much deliberation in the legislature, the majority though far-from-unanimous opinion is that Nazism is a form of Christianity and therefore an ideology permitted in San Martin Caballero. A planned Nazi rally that had been in political limbo has been allowed to proceed.
Civil rights rise from 16 to 22

To increase the Lord's blessings upon our nation, I have authorized the damming of all of San Martin Caballero's major rivers to increase our water and power supply, as well as create jobs. (Scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway.) Those worried about flooding have obviously forgotten the book of Genesis, chapter 6, verses 12-17, where God made a covenant with man promising to never destroy the Earth by flood again. So there's nothing at all to worry about.

After a mine collapse buried hundreds of workers, some Caballeros agitated for implementation of mine safety regulations, but I issued a statement of support to San Martin Caballero’s mining industry. Better structural supports and safety equipment won’t protect miners from a cave-in, only being right with the Lord can do that, so taking those precautions would not only cripple an industry vital to our prosperity, but it would be a blasphemy.
(“Mining is the nation's most dangerous occupation.”)
Economy rises from 95 to 96
WA Category changes from “Moralistic Democracy” to “Right-Wing Utopia”

To further develop both the economic prosperity of San Martin Caballero and the moral heath of our children, I have authorized tax subsidies to business owners who employ children younger than 15. Even though some (like the NS profile) say that “adult unemployment nears 100 percent,” that’s debatable, because other reputable sources (like NS Tracker) say the nation’s overall unemployment rate is only 7.5 percent. And besides, the legislation actually reduced taxes for Caballeros.
Economy rises from 93 to 95
Crime rate rises from "moderate" to "a problem"
The tax rate falls from 14 to 12 percent

The secure the blessings of the Lord in San Martin Caballero, I have authorized employers in the mining industry as well as all other enterprises to fire their workers without having to give them any reason.
Economy rises from 92 to 93

To increase the prosperity and the blessings of the Lord in San Martin Caballero, I have authorized the uranium mining industry to bulldoze Caballero’s rain forests in their quest.
Economy rises from 91 to 92

To better defend San Martin Caballero’s sovereign borders and protect Christianity around the globe, I have authorized a much-needed increase in military spending. Military spending has now hit a new high.
Political freedoms drop from 48 to 43

To help curtail the unholy criminal element in this Godly nation and keep us right with the Lord, I have authorized the creation of a citizens’ database and required all Caballeros to carry compulsory ID cards and to be barcoded.
Crime rate falls from “a serous problem” to “moderate”
Civil rights drop from 30 to 16
Political freedoms drop from 51 to 48

To help encourage the great act of Christian charity that is organ donation, I have authorized people to sell their organs for a profit. College students have proven to be the most charitable group of people in the country.
Civil rights rise from 26 to 30
Economy rises from 90 to 91

To preserve our sanctified democratic institutions, which have been blessed by God, I have freed the ballot box and made it legal for corporations to donate however much they desire to favored politicians.
Political freedoms rise from 39 to 51

To quote the Book of Genesis, 9:3, "Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything." Therefore, I have signed legislation outlawing interference with the domestic meat industry, and animal rights activists in San Martin Caballero are now regularly jailed.
Civil rights drop from 27 to 26
Political freedoms drop from 42 to 39

In order to do the Lord's work more effectively, San Martin Caballero needs to keep its private industry competitive. Therefore, for the glory of God, I have abolished all minimum wage laws.
Economy rises from 84 to 90

To increase support for the automotive industry in San Martin Caballero, I earmarked taxpayer funds to be diverted to domestic automobile manufacturers.
Economy rises from 70 to 84

To reaffirm our commitment to the sanctity of the institution of marriage, I have signed a statement reaffirming San Martin Caballero's law outlawing divorce.
(OOC: Remember a few days ago when that issue repeated? Yeah, I kept it in my folder to pass again once it disappeared from the main profile page.)
Civil rights drop from 28 to 27

To protect the decency and morality of our society, I have made public nudity illegal.

To end the wicked and abominable practice of human cloning, I have expelled all genetic researchers from Caballero soil. Because only the Lord can create life.

To protect our children from Satanic influences and keep them right with the Lord, I have incinerated all Harry Potter books and banned them from San Martin Caballero.
Civil rights drop from 30 to 28

Though to donate an organ to save the life of your fellow man is considered a great act of Christian charity, to take the organs of another without that person's or that person's next of kin's informed consent is an atrocity. So, in Jesus' name, I protected the sanctity of the human body by striking down the compulsory organ donation bill.
("Organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region.")
Civil rights rise from 17 to 30

To protect the sanctity of one of God's and man's most sacred institutions, I have made divorce illegal.

By the grace of God and the moral health of our children, I have made gambling illegal.
Economy drops from 90 to 70
WA category changes from "Right-Wing Utopia" to "Moralistic Democracy"

By the grace of God, I have made euthanasia illegal, because when a life should end is the decision of God, not of man.
Civil rights drop from 32 to 17

Voting is voluntary.

Starting Point:
Civil RIghts: 32, Economic Prosperity: 90, Political Freedoms: 42

Military History of the Community of San Martin Caballero

Postby San Martin Caballero » Sat Mar 12, 2011 10:29 pm

THE HEALTHCARE REBELLON, aka THE ST. DISMAS’ DAY RIOT
On the night of March 25, 2011, the Day of the Feast of St. Dismas, a group of dissidents demanding publically funded healthcare rioted after the government refused to accede to their demands. The Army of San Martin Caballero quelled the minor insurrection by the afternoon of the next day, March 26, the Day of the Feast of St. Ludger.
(Just the result of an issue legislation that I though deserved mention here, not any actual RPing.)

There was another entry here, but the "war" was a lame clusterflop of an RP that went nowhere, so I'm just pretending like it never happened.
