I'd actually rush the tank I am making for that...

This said, I still need a decent viking like name for it. My main problem is that none of the viking nations, not even Iceland seem to have used cavalry and assigned them a special name.

IIRC there is soem eveidence that Vikings did actually fight mounted during thier time in britian and they certainly did when they were transitioning into being Normans...

The anglo saxon word eorod (literally cavalry, infantry was worod). of coruse there is a lot of debate on that as it seems that Anglo saxon/norse elites who could afford horses tended to be very flexible about wether they fought mounted or on foot as part of the sheild wall.

A name that might be useful is Adils, a swedish king from the 6th century who was suggested to have always fought on hrose back, of coruse he would be saddly pre viking but the name coudl easily have lived on. The swedes were certainly into thier horse at the time but again i suspect it was the flexibility of mounted Thegns that stopped cavalry becoming its own term.

MY TANK IS FI-Confused about whether it wants a muzzle brake or that thingie in the middle of the barrel. Is it a bore evacuator/excavator?

Neither the evacuator nor brake look especially suitably sized. Nor does the gun barrel, to be honest. Can't imagine a gun that small would strictly require either.

So make it bigger?

Is it just me or is that turret small even for a Soviet style tank? I can't imagine him having much depression.

There's a huge brick wall in the road. My tank can't break it down, and because it can't break it down, we can't get through to the magical land of 'Good looking tanks', and we're stuck in Uglyfuckville.

The whole turning girls into vehicles (or vice versa) thing seriously baffles me. I like cute girls, I like jets and tanks, but I don't see that merging them improves either one. Ah well, :japan:

The Old Norse word for "horseman" or "rider" would be riddari, which has cognates in all the Scandinavian languages, German Ritter, Old English ridere, among others. Ritter and ridere, at least, were used to refer to cavalrymen as well as to just generic dudes riding horses. Old English also had ridwiga (which was the name of our last-generation MBT) and eoredmann, which mean mounted warriors specifically. I'm not sure if Old Norse had equivalents. (My ON dictionary is way, way thinner than my OE dictionaries. I'm not sure if that's just the dictionary, or if the extant ON corpus is really that much smaller than the OE corpus.)

While vikings were often capable of fighting from horseback, and in battle individuals, particularly nobility, often did, they didn't typically operate as cavalry units. If they had horses - and raiding parties would pretty commonly steal them for mobility on land after arriving at their destination - they'd typically operate as mounted infantry... ride to the battle, dismount and fight on foot.

I've been trying to develop decent armor for my new MBT, but It turns out that while it's easy to come up with armor that has very good thickness efficiency and mass efficiency against HEAT, APFSDS is hard as fuck to stop with lightweight composites. Furthermore, it's hard to come up with a composite armor sandwich that you can be reasonably sure that works.

So I am seriously considering to just make a hilariously thick, cast steel turret (600 mm or so) and strapping on some Heavy ERA to double its effectiveness.

I have asked this before but can't remember the answer and generally want to start a broader discussion on the topic. So, how effective would a high velocity 63mm tank gun patterned roughly after the ZiS-2 be during the 40's? Could it take on say a KV-1 or a Panther? The shell would probably be in the 63x480mm - 63x500mm range.

Hahaha, misread.

The KV isn't as stronk as the russians would make you think. Panther might have some trouble though, especially from the front. As always, the best way to take out heavily armoured tanks is with flank shots.
