Note One Status Report: Currently with twenty three samples from fifteen regions, the survey has mainly investigated phonological differences (e.g. the vowel used in the word "aunt" and whether there was a voiceless dental non-sibilant fricative etc.) and accounting for lexical variation (e.g. the word for what one calls a narrow street or passageway between or behind buildings). In examining the various survey answers there is a distinct and notable pattern of phonology in responding subjects.

Notable Phonological Constants:

A lack of distinction between the voiceless dental non-sibilant fricative (θ) and the voiced dental fricative (ð)
A lack of co articulated approximates/ the voiced labio-velar approximant (w)
A lack of distinction between the open-mid front unrounded vowel (ɛ) and the close front unrounded vowel (i)
A lack of distinction between the voiced alveolar sibilant (z) and the voiceless one (s)
A lack of distinction between the voiced palato-alveolar sibilant(ʒ) and the voiced postalveolar affricate (d͡ʒ)

Notable Lexical Variation:

Soda, pop, or soft drink for a carbonated beverage

Sale of unwanted items from the front of your house is called Yard or Garage sale

A machine from which you can drink water, which you might find in a school is either a water dispensary, a drinking fountain, or a water fountain.

An automobile transmission system in which gears are selected by the driver by means of a hand-operated gearshift and a foot-operated clutch is Manual, clutch, gear box or shift.

A long sandwich with cold cuts or toasted meats is called a Sub, short for Submarine sandwich

The wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the grocery store or supermarket is called a cart or a trolley,

an upholstered seat for more than one person is a sofa, couch, or booth

a store that is devoted primarily to selling alcoholic beverages is either a bar, liquor store, or spirit shop

a long green herb that is used as a garnish or in soups, salads and stir-fry dishes is called a spring onion, green onion, or a leek

food purchased at a restaurant to be eaten elsewhere is called takeaway, take out, or carry out

auxiliary brake that's attached to a rear wheel is called a hand brake, emergency brake, or parking brake

distilled fermented beverage is called booze, alcohol, or spirits

A friend is called comrade, mate, buddy or just friend.

athletic shoes are called sneakers, trainers, and runners

the mini lobster is called crawfish or crayfish

a confection similar to a cupcake is almost always called a muffin

a narrow street behind a building is almost always an alley or an alleyway

insect with a glowing rear end is a firefly, glowbug, or a light bug

a smaller riverlike body of water is called a stream or a creek

A place where one goes to park is called a car park, parking spot or parking lot

The parents of one's parents are the same for both the mother and father

The last big evening meal of the day is called dinner or supper

A place designated for pedestrians to cross a road is called a Zebra crossing or a crosswalk

Plastic boots worn to keep from getting wet in the rain are wellingtons, rainboots, or galoshes

An underground rapid transit rail system is called a subway or underground

A publicly accessible road which has been designed for high-speed vehicular traffic is called a Highway or a Free way and a controlled access road is called a toll way or a toll road

Next Mission: Continue to expand the pool of samples, and study the etymology of instances of which imported words have come to places where there makes little sense for such a word to exist natively, for example zebra where there are no savannah zebras, names for mudcrabs where there are none natively in the environment, or who on earth Wellington is that one would call rainboots Wellingtons, and what on earth galoshes are from, it appears to be an imported word. Given that these names appear to be originated from some past figure, or imported words one can trace the lexical roots of the language of common to a particular ancestral entity.
