History

Born out of the British decolonisations of the post-War period, the early attempts at participatory democracy quickly foundered amidst Communist agitation and a distinctly pro-Royalist trend within the bulk of the population. In 1954, only seven years after the Republic of Centeri was founded, General Stephen Jameson enforced a bloodless coup supported by most of the government establishment and legitimised his rule with a popular referendum that even international observers sent to assess the vote were forced to admit was carried out in an open manner with no documented evidence of coercion from the state. General Jameson became His Royal Highness King Stephen I and declared the House of Jameson as the first indigenous royal household of Centeri. Overwhelmingly adored by the population and courted by the West due to his ardently anti-Communist tendencies, King Stephen I oversaw a jump in the economic and social status of Centeri as he ruled by decree as an absolutist. In the early 1960s a brief period of unrest by Communist agitators was put down quickly due to government crackdowns and overwhelming public support for the monarch. Former KGB agents, speaking after the fall of the Soviet Union, admitted that after the 1960s the Kingdom of Centeri rapidly dropped in their list of priorities for agitation due to the lack of success there.

The Kingdom saw its golden years last until the end of the 1980s, by which time a new King, Daniel I, was in power. Economic and political support dropped from the West following the collapse of the Communism in the East and a growing distaste for the West of the regimes they once supported. As the Centeri economy began to flounded, unrest against the absolutist system began to grow and culminated in a brief civil war between Royalists and a pro-reformist group called the Democratic Front. This lasted roughly three years but eventually resulted in a victory for the monarchy. The King's popularity has significantly waned as a result, but a poll three years ago by the World Assembly still found a majority of the Centeri people supporting the concept of a monarchical system, with a smaller but sizeable percentage admitting that greater democratic oversight would nonetheless be desireable.

Currently, King Daniel II holds the Throne of Centeri, at 23 years old the youngest Monarch to date. He has promised a period of modernisation, international involvement and national development, witnessed in the announcement of the Constitution of the Rights of Subjects - the first codification of citizen's rights in the history of the Kingdom - and the deployment of Centeri armed forces abroad for the first time since World War II during the 4th Latynian Civil War.

Total Number of Combat Personnel: 35,500 approx.
Branches: Royal Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy.
Senior Command Hierarchy (highest to lowest):
The Throne of the Kingdom of Centeri, Royal High Command, Senior Officer Commanding ordered forces.

Historical Overview & Tactical Analysis

The Armed Forces of Centeri is the direct organisational descendent of the Centeri Militia forces raised by the British to police and defend their colony in times when the British Empire would be unable to respond quickly to territorial infringements. After independence, the majority of officers, equipment and training facilities were simply transferred to the command of the new government - first the short-lived Republic and then to the Kingdom of Centeri. The Armed Forces has traditionally been staunchly Royalist since the first monarch of Centeri began as the much-lived General Jameson before seizing power and is a substantial backbone to the support of the Throne in the absolutist system of government currently in place.

Following the decline in support by the West at the end of the Cold War, the Armed Forces of Centeri currently suffer from a shortage of modern military equipment, the majority of military assets held being dated from the 1970s-1980s when the last big military aid packages were delivered. The Armed Forces also suffers from a shortage of manpower that has traditionally dogged the small nation, making the Kingdom capable of defending itself against equivalent-sized threats but currently unable to embark upon the shortest of overseas military operations without significant allied logistical and combat support.
