That's misleading Kiev, the armor on the side is a very thick if the penetrator were to hit it at an angle of 65 degrees. At an angle of 0 degrees, it would be very thin. These are all relative values.

Due to the jungle environment of Zaeus, tanks have not been heavily used in the past, but we are currently revamping our military to add some new designs.

The final design will look pretty much like this, except there will be extra wheels pointing out the side in the front; this will allow the front part to fold in for tighter spaces, without losing any mobility. The rocket launchers in the back will also be able to fold in. It will be fast and very maneuverable, though the downside will be less armor.

Also: the hull MG has been removed and a coaxial has taken its place, although hopefully the vehicle shouldn't be in a position where it needs to use it.

How thick are the road wheels?

Not particularly, they are meant to be as light weight as possible. They provide some good standoff though. But on a T-80/T-84 the only thing the road wheels would actually cover are the passengers feet and the drivers ass.

The Soviets were quite ruthless when they optimized the protection schemes of the T-64/T-72/T-80. All the armor is concentrated across the traditional arc, and this is a big part of why they can maintain relatively high protection at such light weights, but it is no help if you want to convert the vehicle into something other than a tank. The other surfaces are about as well protected as they were on tanks in WWII.

It looks sexy, but I don't believe it's a real vehicle. This allows you to fudge some stats, and make it viable on the modern battlefield.
