Pretty sure that's unrelated. At least 20% of the NationStates General population sobs themselves to sleep, and that is a conservative estimation.

People do shrink. Due to gravity pulling you downward, it compresses the spine and, as people age, they tend to lose about an inch (give or take) in height as a result...... or so I've heard. I'm still 6'1"/185.5cm at my ancient age.
