"The greatest expense and torment of capital punishment is not in the execution itself, which is quick and humane if done properly, as well as inexpensive, but in the waiting which occurs in most penal systems which have the death penalty today. A man can flagrantly commit murder, be tried and found guilty, then spend twenty years forestalling his lawful sentence with an incessant stream of appeals. Not so here. At the national and other levels, once sentence of death has been passed you have thirty days."

"Yeah, Marxism-Leninism and Laissez-Faire have taught our nation important things.

One one hand, a majority of people will eventually bark and bite back at the hands that don't feed them. Leading to various different attempts to stop hunger through centralized plans. Unlike the colonial past, people are worth a lot in gold so long as they work; but their fruits of labor are administrated and distributed by accountants in the Gosbank whom get the permission of fat Party members in the Gosplan of the Legislative Politburo, as they argue with each-other and make a ton of inflating organizations with little to no reason to better their outcome: the result is miserable services that are barely bearable and shared material misery. The God of the State, the great provider, apparently only provides for its administrators in a decent way because everyone else must subscribe to the plan...OR ELSE. It's sad to see the ideals of a collective community of providing goodwill turned into a corporation of material greed and hypocrisy led by egomaniac onanists who claim to work for the people, and the thoughtful layperson could only shake their heads in disbelief at the monster they created.

But then Saint Reagan and the Good Apostles of Trickle Down in the un-empirical Austrian School of Pampered Overgrown Brats and Objectivist Fanboy 'Think' Tanks came and made everything better...well unless if you're an insane person with nobody to fall on, then you're just a crazy bum by choice, or a moocher...anybody who isn't a producer. Christian charity leaves a lot to be desired for the moochers and parasites, and there is little mercy in a world that worships Mammon while it 'prays' for Christ to magically do something. Considering this Earth has limited resources, and we're distributing them in an obscenely unequal way and in all due haste of self-destruction. But I'm sure that if the most productive get tax cuts, they'll eventually let go of their wealth. That'll be the day Pope Francisco is canonized by the Augustinians and Dominicans. It's sad to see the ideals of an cannibalistic invisible hand turning people into alienated degenerates who think they have a choice in a lobbied Politburo that are told they can move up the cannibal scale on a regular basis by being bold individuals in a world where everyone aspires to be 'individual', and the thoughtful layperson could only shake their heads in disbelief at the monster they created.

Yes. Our old folk who cling to their distorted Spanish Catholic-Amerindian-Yoruba faith have confirmed their truths to future generations. Living is agony. Death is a friend that avenges us from the indignities of living and makes the suffering a transcendent experience by dying. God must surely exist. God is a loving creator that invented death to reward the meek and oppressed as a merciful end, and a divine punishment for the strong that could have vastly helped if they truly wanted to by taking them from material success. Death truly is our friend. And eventually, Death rewards or punishes all."

We could take the safe path, the one we have mapped out, with game and streams and the occasional supply cache. Nice and safe, get were we're going fast. Or we can go through the dark uncharted cave that nobody's come out of, in the hope of finding some monster inside and turning it into a coat. It's meant to represent that records even for the Tellans that far back are spotty indeed (which itself comes not from their lack of effort but the fact the Tellan Civil War was... Horrific beyond words). It was 85ma years ago. They're not quite old enough to be from the 'verse before this one. :P

"Justice is what envious imps dress up their revenge as in order to give it some veneer of respectability."

-Saepnir the Purple.

"Mackonian Tragedy is a proud theatrical tradition, while all are written in Tsajecek there is no clear bias towards Cat or Cyrzarii when it comes to 'ownership' of the form and its golden age was reached with the unity of the two traditions under Chalsophemo. However it is easy to see why it did not catch on abroad, a whole new meaning to values dissonance appears after even attempting to stage them in a Western theater. Let us take a bog-standard example, Naesiris of Seydaroth. Its main protagonist lies, cheats, bribes and blackmails his way to overthrow a democratically elected ruler (sometimes substituted for a mayor), sexually assault his teenage daughter and murder is infant heir...he is in Mackonian eyes 100% the Hero. No not an anti-hero, not a tragic figure: The solid heroic character who is referred to as such in the stage directions, script and author's notes. He is briefly captured and tried by the vengeful brother of the King; but outsmarts him in the last act through some genuinely powerful rhetoric...and manipulating the poor girl he had earlier abused into testifying in his favour. He then lives happily ever after. A slightly less extreme example would be The Unforked Lightening , it tells the story of a brilliant scholar who slowly alienates all his friends through his arrogance, refuses to admit his theories to be false when they are disproved by a young rival and finally retreats into the wilderness in despair where he kills himself to escape a fundamentally malevolent universe. His actions are genuinely seen as the purest example of nobility and heroism by Mackonians, in fact when some French intellectuals discovered the play and tried to paint him as some sort of neglected genius many Mackonian critics (Maglos allegedly assaulted Camus when the two met for plagiarising it) were gravely offended by what they saw as barbarism. A bit like how we felt when Mackonians go about trying to portray Jesus as some sort of oppressed misanthropic isolationist of their own liking, or Frodo Baggins as a villain-protagonist."

-Eleanor White, on Mackonian Storylines, in this context limited to Plays.
The Agonocracy of Greater Mackonia
"Show me someone without an ego, and I'll show you a loser."

"Montserrat Zorilla doesn't like country clubs. Country clubs don't like her much. And she fits in like a sore thumb when some foolhardy member of the Judicial branch or Legislative Politburo invite her, or when the estranged Spanish side of the family bring her along.

They know very well she's an overgrown Party member. She 'wised up' because she and her cohorts want to turn the PRLP into a Soft Power with a free economy as little more than a tool of conquest. They're still borderline nationalists with a xenophobic streak risen by Cold War paranoia and a latent anti-Western sentiment."

-Anonymous aide

"The relation and views of Montserrat Zorilla and her faction of the Liberal Democratic People's Party towards the USA and the EU could be considered an embodiment of the darker side of Las Palmeras.

The LDPP was formed in 1980 after the 1978 Reforms as a primary opponent of the then undisputed Social Democratic Party and Socialist Party that themselves overthrew the original 'Old' Party. And in a broadly similar fashion to the 1975 Canberra Coup in Australia, the right-wink LDPP won a tricky election. The LDPP was also a proponent of the North American and Caribbean Free Trade Act; in which the PRLP benefited. However the traditionalist LDPP separated in to the Liberal Party. Economically the same thing but without the Cold War 'cultural traditionalism' and with less God.

Montserrat Zorilla subscribes to the first, the LDPP. Center-right policies, and justice to social contracts where a government avoids interfering with the Invisible Hand when deemed possible to do so. Strong social values of Cold War-era sense of civic duty and cooperative solidarity between people like in the traditional collectivist values of this country's culture; along with filial piety, self sacrifice, 'productive' heterosexual marriage, cousin incest-shaming, and the praise of family and group work accomplishments and needs over individual needs and accomplishments in an environment of patriotism.

As Mr. Misamune of Senyosu would put it, you can just feel the cognitive dissonance when somebody in the above-mentioned group gasps at the imported American and West European norms of what they perceive as selfishness, self-indulgence and general insolence.

That and despite the fact that the NACFTA bettered the general view of the US with younger generations through the far bettered diplomatic relations and heightened standards of living though trade and investment, the older ones are still more prone to look at the Northern neighbor with suspicion and likewise see Europe as Uncle Sam's toady and crony. Not to mention the historical past of Imperialism. I betcha nowadays if you tell a layperson what the think of the US they'll give it a thumbs up or a so-so hand symbol. Their parents may give them a sneer or a so-so sign. And their grandparents will most definitely sneer.

Though China and Russia were and are local bullies, and ironically enough, though they are rivals...the two also have 'special' relations with the West. And because the two spent tonnes in ideological aid and infrastructural support due to our strategic position, and were also Soft Powers in here, their brand of anti-West xenophobia rubbed off as well. For which locals here could also understand the hypocritical Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War. Or feel the Chinese '100 years of humiliation' with our '400 years of humiliation'. Or sympathize with Indochina's fight against the French and Americans and India's bombing of Portuguese ports, or even agree with our Cold War involvements in Post-Colonial Africa, like in the Congo and Angola.

This does leave a legacy to the day, seeing as how the human rights abuses of those two powerbrokers are minimized in international meetings, and the State has even gone so far as supporting China in Tibet. Russia is way harder to try to polish though, especially now."
