I recently came out to my parents as gay. I was terrified that they wouldn't accept me for who I am, but inspirational people like you gave me the courage to stand up and assert myself. I wanted to say thank you, but I also wanted to ask what you would do to protect the rights of LGBTQ people in the Senate. Marriage equality doesn't prevent violence or harassment directed against people like me. Do you have any plans to pass anti-hate laws? Or to incorporate programs that promote tolerance into schools?

I'm very proud of you, Jessie, and I know that coming out to my family was one of the hardest things to do. Homosexuality is either unheard of or punishable by death in many parts of Africa, where I grew up. It is imperative that we protect all our citizens from harm, as that is an infringement on their right to live their lives to the fullest. Harassment of any kind should not be allowed on any public place in Aurentina, and the police force must do all they can to respond to situations of violence influenced by hate just like any other violence. We can't have anyone living in fear, especially in an advanced nation such as ours. I don't have any plans for anti-hate laws, because I think that's a simple infringement of speech, but if that hatred and bigotry goes into violence, that is completely different. In our schools, we need to have staff treat all students equally, regardless of anything such as race or sexuality. Violators should be held accountable and punished accordingly. Together, by opening up and not living in fear, we can move Aurentina into the future and make this nation a leader in the world on human rights and tolerance. Thanks for the great question, Jessie.

You have been represented as a prominent critic of the Aurentine government and a fiery voice of opposition in the Senate. May I ask what, in particular, you dislike about the current system? Also, if you had enough influence, what reforms would you enact to current legislation?

As I've said time and again, I like people to know what I think. I've sponsored bills that will increase civil and economic freedoms, but obviously we have seen the increasingly authoritarian (and quasi-socialist) left stamping out these proposals. Why? They think the state should be in control of private funds. It is no longer a rule by the people, but a rule by the bureaucratic left. Recklessly taking and spending money from the market is dangerous and will lead to collapse. We've seen it in Europe and in America. The state should exist only to protect the most basal rights of man, but the currently dominant left has taken positions very similar to those that lead to the policies enacted in the aforementioned regions where economic downfall was not only predictable, but also inevitable. Get the government out of personal decisions, increase buying power, let the free market take its natural course, and Aurentina will be the shrine of freedom in the world. What we have now is unacceptable.

What is your favorite novel? Which novel would you say has influenced you most or left the most notable impression on your life as a whole?

America opened my eyes to 2 things: cheeseburgers and unique literature. I found solace in Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird", which holds a special place in my heart still. It was beautifully crafted work, and the plot was all too real. At just 16, I began to realize the disadvantages of the justice system then and now. The book itself provoked so much thought within myself; it was like an explosion. I guess you could say that it had the greatest impact of any book in my life, and I've read a lot. Harper Lee made me look at things more closely, but more importantly, she taught me to question everything. Life of Pi is second.
