Yeah, and I suspect that idea disappeared right around...mmmm....the third mafia explosion/bombing thing, or around the time when we legalized gay marriage before establishing a tax structure.

The mafia has never bombed anything, and the order of bills changes jack shit.

No, clearly the mafia has never done anything along those lines.

Also, yes, the order of bills matters a great deal. If we're a "modern European nation in the real world as we currently know it", there's no way in h-e-double-toothpicks we'd legalize gay marriage before figuring out a tax structure.

OOC: It's all in good fun. A Senator being of some supernatural origin isn't going to harm your RPing experience. Now, godmodding is indeed a concern, but if your Senator has no superpowers except for an extended lifespan, then what's the harm?

Given that we're a former British colony with a Westminster-Presidential system, it stands to reason that the old colonial laws carry over as common law until we pass laws that supersede them.

And even more so, there are Senators that have a lot more eccentricity than me. Such as the nobel peace prize winners, the 100 billion dollar magnates, etc.

So if you'll excuse me, my Senator has a biography to update.

It sort of ruins the spirit of the RP. We're here, trying to suspend disbelief and act like we're important people in a fake realistic-ish country, and then suddenly there's a wizard or a talking pony or something. I can understand where he's coming from.

Well, if we're being OOC now, then two things:

1. Yeah, there was that post by the "Prince of Shadows" about the 'military grade' bombing that caused a fuss. As far as I remember, most Senators just ignored it, and it may or may not have been retconned later. There's also the shootings, kidnappings, and let's not even get into Senator Orson Empire. Either way, the Mafia's shenanigans? Not exactly realistic.

2. Sure. You're arguing that we're based in the real world and abide by all the regulations thereof. Now, I invite you to take a look, a very close and deep look, at the various Senate threads. Seriously, take it all in. Now, get back to me on how realistic this RP is.

Except my Senator has no supernatural powers outside being alive for several decades longer than the average person. She can't wave a wand, or ride a dragon, what's the harm?

If people have these powers, then yes, that's godmodding, but I don't see how being 155 and still looking young is godmodding.

I really can't, though.

I mean, should we actually go back through the thread and point out how many Senators have unrealistic backgrounds, heritages, titles, awards, business ventures, etc, etc? I mean, didn't Kouralia have to step in at one point to tell someone they couldn't be a multi-triathlon winner, successful businessman, writer, and a Senator all at the same time (by a super-young age, no less...)

1. Fine. What about the various shenanigans going on with the restaurants/bars, shootings, etc? It's gotten to the point where I can't even remember which event goes with which bar. There's the Aurentine Arms, which burned down or something, some sort of shoot-off going on in the Constabulary thread, and then there was something about a Mafia casino that got bombed and then ignore-cannoned.

2. Really. You're going to tell me that it's not blatantly obvious?

1a). Which is to say, people ignore-cannoned it to the point where it didn't matter. Just go ahead and do that to all the things here, then.

1b). Really? You're going to quibble? The mafia shenanigans, and I use shenanigans very broadly here, are wildly unrealistic.

1c). Ahhhh, yes. I take it back, this situation is entirely realistic.....if we were in the 1920-1930s, rather than a highly developed European nation in the 2010s.

2). Which is to say, not realistic at all.

It's not godmodding, but it's still a bit silly and in bad taste to do it.

But is being a Senator that is in every other respect normal, but they're a pony, godmodding? No, but it's against the spirit of the RP, much as having a 155 or 1000 year old Senator would be. I'm not really upset over it, but it's a bit dumb to see people making characters like that unless they're just joking around.

I'm just doing it for fun. It's not like she'll openly declare herself to be 155 years old. She just kind of likes to melt into society and avoid questions. She has no desire to declare herself to be some 155 year old supernatural witch or something like that. She's just content with letting people know her, before she fades back into the background.

As an aside: shooting someone or killing their character without their permission is a pretty clear cut case of godmodding, and certainly is worse taste than making your character 200 years old.
