Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • How do the poor succeed in a laissez-faire economy without government welfare? - They succeed because economic success follows up to everyone. Also, when you are taught that it is unnecessary to attempt to succeed in an economy by getting government help without it, what encourages them to work. If there are going to receive welfare without working, wouldn't you just sit home without working?

Robert (von) Glasgia - Market Socialist Party
Image

Account Name: Glasgia
Occupation: Senator
Party Position(s):
Chairman, Ambassador to Liberal Democrats

Positions in Government:
Minister of Foreign Affairs - Unnofficial state historian

Constituency: Vinveel
Political Ideology: Libertarian Market Socialist
Family: Unmarried
Background: Born to a lower-middle class family in Vinveel on 30th September, 1975. Robert's father was an engineer and worked designing ships for shipping companies operating in the port. He bought in a decent family income, providing a fairly comfortable childhood.

Robert was noted for being exceptionally clever in class, while also running and playing rugby at state and almost club level - he was involved in trials for London Wasps at sixteen but the process fell through quickly. He studied History, Maths and Physics at A level, hoping to become an engineer like his father, though more interested in the miltary application. He moved to Scotland at the age of nineteen and studied engineering at St. Andrews.

Having completed his studies, Glasgia joined the Highlanders as an engineering platoon officer. Upon joining, he decided to drop the 'von' in his surname as he viewed it as a status symbol among Germans and not something he wanted. Within a year, the battalion was deployed to Iraq. In his two-year tour of service in Iraq, Lieutenant Glasgia became Captain Glasgia but was not promoted further and returned noted as a good soldier, but not exceptional. He continued to serve tours in Iraq and later Afghanistan, being promoted again to Major. However, after fourteen years in the army, nationalism was stirring at home and Glasgia left Britain to return to Aurentina.

He became involved in the Vinveel Nationalist Organisation, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of Aurentina's rich and independent history. Though he took up work in the docks, he slowly became a more active member of the organisation. The organisation began to fund a campaign for Glasgia, taking over the company Vinveel Schiffe at a reduced price from the owner - a supporter of Glasgia who wished to retire. As independence neared, Glasgia dissolved the organisation and used the funds to form a campaign to elect him in the constituency, hiring former members and professionals from elsewhere. Glasgia's campaign quickly picked up traction and the funding needed became less. Instead of useless investment on a campaign already won, Glasgia bought out all assets of the collapsed arms company Richtenstein Waffen and renamed in Glasgia Waffen. On Saturday the 5th of April, independence was declared. Two weeks later, on the 21st, Glasgia was elected as Senator for Vinveel docks. His political career so far has been active, promoting Kallinos' national history and attempting to form a Market Socialist Party before joining the Liberal Democrats.

Political Career: Glasgia was immediately thrown into the limelight, being appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the First Cabinet of Aurentina. His foreign policy was that of economic co-operation, while limiting interventionist actions. He was involved in drafting the government business initiatives act and hopes to see it through to implementing the first step towards a socialist state. To become an example for the bill, Glasgia has bought and then distributed forty nine percent of shares, within Vinveel Schiffe and Glasgia Waffen, among company employees. This change to a worker co-operative is intended to show the effectiveness of the system.

After finishing his term as Minister of Foreign Affairs with the Progressive-Conservative led rebellion against the coalition, Glasgia decided to avoid siding with the new right-wing government. When his party, the Liberal Democrats, decided to back the new government, he left the party. Glasgia is currently organising his second attempt at forming the Market Socialist Party, now drawing on past experience. The party, as a part of the Progress Coalition, grew at a steady pace and has only recently become official. Due to Glasgia's leadership and support from other important figures, such as Minister Erich Malgrave, they maintain a large influence ratio when compared with party size.

Dropped from the Second Cabinet almost immediately after Wolfmanne's rebellion, Glasgia became the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs. Noting the inactivity of Minister Rosenfeldt, Glasgia produced one of best political sucesses of his career. In a short speech to the senate, he destroyed the minister thoroughly through criticism of his apparent inability in the role. He managed to assume de-facto office for a matter of days, strengthening opinion of him and proving a large blow to the government, before Rosenfeldt was replaced by Meitner. Glasgia pursued his case, opposing Meitner's policies with much support.

This political show cemented his influence and even prestige within the senate. Upon President Britanno's announcement of plans for a non-partisan government and subsequent appointment of Prime Minister Pierce, Glasgia was appointed without opposition as Minister of Foreign Affairs. His term began quietly yet began to heat up as intervention in Syria was brought to the forefront. Since the first cabinet, the government had been supplying rebels with non-lethal aid but now the US and the UK threatened military intervention. After much cabinet discussion, the government agreed to continue only status-quo non-lethal aid to the rebels, military involvement being opposed by both Glasgia and the Minister of Defence, Alfred Wintle.

However, the drama did not finish. As the decision was confirmed by the president, Glasgia took a foreign tour to meet with many global leaders. Though this included a call for calm over Syria in meeting with British Foreign Secretary Hague and talks over the rise of democracy with the recovering Mandela, the bulk of the tour was spent cementing access to entry into the European Free Trade Agreement and the International Monetary Fund. In talks with Icelandic, Norwegian, Liechtensteiner and Swiss economic and foreign ministers, Glasgia received support for the former and general apathy for the latter. However, at home the EFTA’s support was a weak majority and the IMF opposed by many, his own coalition members even campaigning against the organisation’s supposed economic terrorism. With bills in queue ratifying the agreements of both, Glasgia took what appeared to be a hit in popularity thanks to opposition to the IMF. With his term ending, he had however secured Aurentine Non-Proliferation, a largely overlooked act, and free trade within the European Economic Area, alongside creation of minimal reciprocal tariffs.

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?

  • What really made you return to Aurentina? - I'd been in Britain for a long time and I almost considered myself British, but it wasn't the same. As soon as I heard talk of a referendum, I knew I had to go back home. The people here are the best and this is where I'm most comfortable: this country deserves a bright future and I came here to make sure they get it.
  • Having lived in Scotland, what's your view on Scottish independence? - All for it. The same way we rose from being another to colony to the English, they can too. While Britain is a great country, both they and us can do better. However, in the end it is not my choice. There will be a referendum and I will not vote: the Scottish people will choose their own future.
  • Do you have guns in the house yourself? - Being ex-army, I like to keep my combat skills up to standard, though maybe not quite army standard. That means I do own guns: a L128A1 shotgun for shooting and a Browning L9A1 pistol for self-defence and shooting. Neither of these break any of the proposed gun laws and if they did I would happily hand them over.
  • Why did you join the Liberal Democrats - I thought you were a socialist? I am a socialist. However, I find it very easy to compromise on my economic beliefs. On the matter of my social beliefs I am strongly liberal and I felt I needed a party who would look to create an equal state. The Liberal Democrats provided that alongside a friendly environment and good organisation.
  • So you advocate nationalisation, despite owning two businesses of your own? To be blunt, yes. If the government is successful in implementing a form of market socialism, then I will happily nationalise all my enterprises as an example to the people. That time is not yet unfortunately and for now I run these businesses in order to fund my political career and provide jobs for those in my constituency.
  • What is your stance on immigration?
So often, immigration is viewed as a purely bad thing. Many view the question as whether or not it is immoral to turn away those seeking to enter our country. However, that is not the case. I feel those who have committed no proven crimes are a valuable asset to the Aurentian workforce and should be treated as such. An influx of new culture creates not only a more interesting world, but brings new trades and crafts with it.
  • What is your stance to ex-KGB Stalinists?
It depends on the character of the person. To me ex-KGB is simply a former profession. If that is how they worked in the past, that is their business. Unless they are known to have been involved in any particular crimes to humanity, I see it simply as their story. As for Stalinist views, that is their politics. While I do not agree with those politics and wish to avoid extremism, it is not my business to tell them if they are wrong or right in their ideology.
  • To any senators, What are your views on the plebs?
Senator, such offensive terms should not be used to describe the large majority of our population, simply because they do not stand up to your "status" requirements. The working and middle classes, as I believe a prejudiced member of bourgeouise would mean by the term "plebs", are the backbone of any economy and nation. While you may enjoy owning various companies, every company requires more than just one rich bastard to run them. All profit must come from labour.
  • What do you believe Aurentine should do about the Sryian conflict, and the destablizing north african coastline? Arm rebel groups, stay out, particpate in anti terror crusades, or do you have another answer?
I believe the only answer for Aurentina is neutrality until forced. We are recently independent, in no way a great power, and should remember as such. While I would question the morality of intervenionist powers, we cannot even consider such a position militarily. Meanwhile, diplomatically, we must always support freedom abroad.

That begs the question of Syria. In my above positions, I appear to have contradicted myself on the matter. I have indeed claimed that we should support freedom, but cannot use our military to do so. Many forget there are alternatives though and that is what we must focus on. We know that Assad's regime has oppressed his people and as such we should enforce every sanction in our diplomatic arsenal. I would call for the closure of trade with Syria and supplying the rebels with every need they have, bar military aid whether in the form of soldiers or weapons.

Unfortunately, North Africa is a more complex situation and has to be treated as one. We need to support the new, democratic, nations through strengthening historical ties to the region, both in trade and politics. However, if that means backing the same 'democratic' Presidents placed by military control, we cannot. We must only support true democracy, true freedom, and condemn any sign of a return to the dictators of old.
  • In regards to supporting the rebels in sryia, do you propose arming them or in other ways giving them any material support? And if so, are you aware that many of the rebels have link to extremist groups?
I am aware that many rebels have links to extremist groups. As such, I wish to avoid a situation like in Afghanistan, where western-trained extremists then used their training to fight for other causes. Any large influx of weapons may then provide the means to destabilise the region in the future and that is why we must make every other effort to aid the rebels. If that means a hundred Aurentine medical teams working on the ground, that is what I hope we can provide. If that means tents, clothes, food, clean water, that is what I hope we can provide.
  • How do you propose Aurentine act on Egypt's current chaos? On the one hand the military is pro western and supported by half the population, on the other hand they overthrew the democratically elected president that still has large support? Should Aurentine do anything for now, or should we wait and see, or perhaps not act at all? Which side do you personally approve of?
As I've said before the situation in Egypt is less clear cut. I was personally no supporter of former President Morsi - he was an extremist, a fundamentalist, and he was oppressive in many ways. However, he was democratically elected. The Egyptian people fought long and hard for that right and if they choose to through it away, they endanger the freedom of future generations. I personally condemn the actions of the military, but do not think any action should be taken against the Egyptian state providing they stay democratic.
  • How do the Market Socialists differ from the Red-Greens?
    Emphasis and economy.

For the large part of our platforms, both parties are similiar. However, they maintain diferrent focuses. For example, both parties want a green future, with incentives for green energy and public transport being included in their platforms. However, the environment is a mere sidenote mentioned occassionally in the Market Socialist Party's policies. In contrast, as their name suggests, the environment is central to the goals of the Red-Greens and without it they would be a diferrent party. Emphasis diferrences can be found many times through both platforms and that is a large part of what keeps the parties differrent, with the Market Socialists dedicating more to social security, the Red-Greens in education and the Market Socialists in foreign policy.

However, these are not the most obvious diferrences and, perhaps, if that was all they would be the same party as two. That is not the case. It is in economic ideology they vary hugely. While the Red-Greens advocate some forms of economic democracy, the concept of Market Socialism drives the Market Socialists. Rather than the Democratic Socialism of the Red-Greens, they support a regulated market within a socialist state. The concept of competition is what has driven many capitalist societies to innovate, at the cost of the worker, and the Market Socialist Party believes that the implementation of Market Socialism fosters this competitive drive without harming the worker.
  • Do you support violent independent action against the mafia?
Shortly, no. Vigilantes often cause as much damage as they stop and creates a dangerous precedent after their targets have been finished with. If we allow one man to kill another, who stops him killing others who are criminals in his eyes only, not the eyes of the law? We need an efficient organised response to the Mafia: preferably limiting casualties but making sure we destroy the organisation at its core and end this parasite’s life.
  • What do you think about the sport of rugby and cricket?
I used to, and still do on ocassion though rarely now, play the former and I have no problem with the latter, though it’s too slow for my liking. I actually had trials with London Wasps, having been a part of their Vinveel academy for a decent amount of time, but that fell through quickly. As I’ve said before on football, we should get a national team running for both sports as soon as possible. I’ll be sure to try and find tickets for as many Aurentine rugby matches as possible.
  • Are you pleased that the UK is finally pulling out of Afghanistan?
It’s a complicated matter. I have fought in the region and that means I am either fortunate or unfortunate enough to know the situation first hand.

I guess in general it is a good thing. I heavily oppose most interventionist policies and the death of some of my friends among hundreds of others in a foreign war is never something I want. However, the stability of the country is questionable and I worry deeply. At the very least, I support continued training programs to benefit both the Afghan police and army, and monitoring of the situation. In the end though, it is the decision of the Afghan government and if they want western troops to leave, they should leave with no questions asked.

  • Why is communism superior to capitalism? - Because it heroically overcomes problems that do not exist in any other system.

Erich Malgrave - Market Socialist Party
Image

Account Name: Malgrave
Occupation: Senator
Party Position(s):
Senator
Head of the League of Science and Rational Thought
Deputy Head of the Proletarian Protection Force
Head of the Street Branch

Positions in Government:
Minister of International Development
N/A

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Marxist-Lennist/Titoist
Family: No family
Background:
Born in the dockside region in Kolemborg Erich Malgrave was accustomed to the extreme poverty of the local working class from an early age. Growing up in an impoverished family Erich was forced to leave full-time education at the age of fourteen and pursue employment in the local dockyards. It was at these docks that Erich was introduced into the world of union activism and communism. After working in the docks for two years Erich detested what he saw as great injustices between the living conditions of the rich down owners and the situation of his fellow dock workers. Erich quickly organised violent strike movements against the dock, destroying property and blocking scabs sent to replace the striking work force. Despite being fired from the docks for his successful strike action Erich was seen favourably amongst the union leadership and given the opportunity to return to full-time education.

Back in full time education Erich rediscovered his passion for learning and politics, much to the displeasure of the union however Erich refused to become a lawyer instead studying International Relations at university. During this time Erich Malgrave quickly became disillusioned with what he saw as "traitorous compromising" by his former union and began to search for new political movements. Discovering Margarte Backer and her communist publications Erich Malgrave left his former union and joined the USLP quickly becoming involved in the Street Branch and forming the League of Science and Rational Thought.

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • Why did you form the LSRT - Why? Religion poisons the workers mind it makes them susceptible to enslavement by both religion and private corporations. By promoting science and atheism amongst the working class and wider population I and the members of the LSRT hope to create a population that is unable to be subjugated by religion.
  • Who ranks as your favourite socialist leader? - Quite a tough one. I'd say its a toss up between Vladimir Lenin and Josip Broz Tito. Lenin refined Marxism and bought true democracy and freedom to the Soviet people whilst Josip Tito fought against the fascists and managed to free his nation from foreign influence and the criminal monarchy.
  • What is your favourite book - You'd expect me to say something like the Communist Manifesto? It is certainly a good read however Nikola Tesla's autobiography is currently my favourite read.
  • Sir what is your opinion of ties between the Islamic faith and violance in the middle east and north Africa? I assure this isn't ment to a loaded question and as a Sufi Muslim myself I assure you I will take any answer with maturity as you are entitled to your own thoughts. - Religion has been used as a weapon to enslave the proletariat across the world for centuries. In the Middle East and North Africa like countless other places it creates division between different religious sects, ethnicities and other mindless differences. You can see how this religious oppression takes hold in countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Saudi Arabia treating women and immigrants like slaves and Egyptians sexually assaulting and attacking fellow Egyptian citizens for reasons instilled into them by their religious oppressors. It is why I continue to head the League of Science and Rational Thought and one day I plan to purge this great nation of religion.

Otto Karl Ludwig, Graf von Tyrannien - Classical Monarchist Party
Image

Account Name: Old Tyrannia
Occupation: Senator, Author and Distinguished Naturalist
Party Position(s):
Lord President and Founder of the Classical Monarchist Party
Shadow Minister for Arts & Culture of the Stalhelm Alliance

Positions in Government:
Senator

Constituency: Nüvelreenëstöün-Tyrannien
Political Ideology: Ultra-Royalist, Environmentalist and Conservative Socialist
Family: Maria Antonia, Gräfin von Tyrannien (wife), Lady Anastasia Maria von Tyrannien (daughter)
Background:
Born into the wealthy Germanic von Tyrannien family, the future Graf von Tyrannien was raised at his father's extensive country estate, Rabenschwarzhaus, in the south of Aurentina. A talented writer, his early attempts to enter politics were frustrated by his ultra-conservative views- instilled in him by his aristocratic parents- and stutter. As such he lived at his parents' estate and contributed to the family finances by publishing a chain of moderately commercially successful books, including two novels, five novellas, three books on the flora and fauna of Aurentina, a book on Aurentine palaeontology and a two-volume political treatise. His fame and popularity began to grow and after his father died, leaving him the family estate, he re-entered politics and became the founder of the Classical Monarchist Party which he funded from his own extensive personal wealth. He has enough money to screw the rules, but prefers not to because of his devotion to law and order.

Faith: Confucian
Likes: Earl Grey, pomp and ceremony, the countryside, East Asian culture, monarchy, religious faith and science fiction.
Dislikes: Secularism, racism, populism, fascism, socialism, those damned Yanks.
Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • What motivated your decision to step down as Chairman of the CMP? - Well, I suppose I felt I couldn't lead the party with the same vigour as I did when I was younger. And I felt that some of my views were not quite the same as those of the party, especially on economics and what not, and so decided to hand the reigns over to someone who better represented the party as a whole.
  • Do you see yourself as a potential King of a future Aurentine Kingdom? - I think the King should probably be someone who comes from outside politics, but I have had it suggested to me that I could become King and if it is the will of the people, I would be greatly honoured. I certainly believe my daughter would one day make a phenomenal Queen regnant.
  • What would you say to those who accuse you of being an eccentric? - Eccentric? I'm far beyond that now. I'm quite mad, you know! But don't we all go a little mad sometimes, hmmm?
  • Despite your family's Germanic noble roots, you're not much of a Germanophile, are you? - No. My family have been here in Aurentina since the Middle Ages, though we're of Teutonic stock. My mother was Scottish and my father an Oxford-educated anglophile. I don't share many of my fellow monarchists' admiration of Germany or Prussia. I look to the east, to Japan and China, and to Great Britain for inspiration. I support all monarchies though, and they're all unique and characteristic of their respective nation, whilst republics are largely cut from the same mould.
