No, because that would be in horribly bad taste.

Please explain why you made that choice. Your choice can be based on anything.
Include all reasons.

This is not about should you have the right to choice or not or if abortion should be legal or not. If you want to talk about that go to your stand on abortion thread. In other words, do not debate the morality or ethics of it in general.

Your choice can be based on morality or ethics, but do not the right to choice is good or bad or abortion is good or bad, etc.
The abortion can be during any part of the pregnancy.
Having the child means it can be put up for adoption or raising it yourself.

If I find out I'm pregnant, I sue the pharmaceutical company that makes my birth control pills, in a futile attempt to get some cash to pay off my student loans. :P

Seriously though, I get an abortion. As quickly as possible.

If my loved one gets pregnant, I let her know that I'm prepared to help her with whatever decision she makes, in whatever manner she'd like me to help. If she just wants me to get the hell away from her and leave her alone, I do that. If she wants me to do research for her about her options, I do that. If she wants me to hold her hand or let her scream her head off to me or distract her by making funny faces, I do those things and I also bring her a sundae. The rest of the world will be only too happy to question her choices and tell her what to do, so my role as her loved one is to be a little island of mellow that will just accept her choice and let her come to terms with it however she wants.

The decision is, of course, entirely up to the mother.

Unfortunately, exit surveys from abortion clinics have shown that the majority of women clients have made their decision in order to please some male in their life, either father, husband, or lover.

So then that decision was NOT entirely her own, eh?

First let's have thorough counseling. Explain to the woman what is involved, physically and emotionally. Be honest. And make the guys wait outside while you do this.

Then honor her wishes, and do provide followup support. Most women grieve after an abortion, and all those who eagerly urged them on to that decision are somehow unavailable afterward for a shoulder to cry on.

Have fun providing us with sources on that.

You sound offended.

Have I offended you?

Did I not acknowledge the right of the woman to freely choose?

Do you imagine that those who go through this procedure emerge cheerful and unaffected?

Bottle always sounds like that. :p

Anyway, you made a positive assertion and Bottle asked for sources. Seems fairly simple to me.

Actually all she did was not-so-subtly state her (presumed) belief that you'll have difficulty sourcing your statement. Something you so far haven't done, instead electing to resort to personal comments, apparently as a means of diversion from the point.

Actually, you're the one who sounds exceedingly defensive.

If you actually care so much about women and their choices, then I'm sure you're not making these kinds of assertions blindly. I'm sure you have multiple good sources to back up your claims, because (being so thoughtful and caring) you've taken the time to gain a full and informed grasp of this subject before you weigh in on what women do and do not feel.

Which, to be fair, is a good tactic. Seeing as how the preponderance of evidence does not, in fact, support the claims that Pope made. :D

Deus Malum:

True.

See, it was from a seminary course in feminist theology, which I took back in 1989, and I can't find the material right now.

Where did I put it? Hmm, it was right here...

Anyway, once I collect my wits I hope to have it for you.

In a day or two, most likely.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I wasn't saying it was a bad tactic, per se. Just one that wouldn't work at all on this forum. Not even remotely. :D

I'd like to see that. Though how you think a seminary course is a good source of material on abortion statistics is beyond me. Doesn't the CDC keep statistics on stuff life this? I know Guttmacher does, but there's often claims of pro-choice bias about them (I don't know either way, and I don't care. Cited info is cited info).

Yes, the CDC does. And yes, Guttmacher does. And yes, so do many other organizations.

And the medical and psychological consensus on the data right now is that women who choose to give birth are more likely to experience depression and mental illness than women who have abortions, and women who choose abortion are not any more likely to report regrets than women who choose to carry to term. Yet for some craaaaaazy reason, nobody argues that women should be forced to go through counseling (for their own good of course) before they're allowed to choose NOT to have an abortion.

This was a Presbyterian seminary, they do not teach mindless dogmatic crap.

If anything, it is hard to find courses which support traditional patterns of belief.

Okay, one of my sources seems to have been Carol Gilligan's "In A Different Voice".
http://www.stolaf.edu/people/huff/class ... ligan.html

for reference
http://www.springerlink.com/content/k81nvh1246kklp2v/

also her 1988 study with Attanucci
http://www.psychology.sbc.edu/Gilligan.htm

She discusses the ways in which males and females differ in their approach to an abortion decision
http://acypher.com/BookNotes/Gilligan.html

also, her "No Higher Court: Contemporary Feminism and the Right to Abortion"
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m ... _18676189/

I also consulted the respected and impartial ongoing Bostonian voice, "Our Bodies, Our Selves"

Seminary course in feminist theology.

I can't wait for that. :D

EDIT: Oops! Didn't have to wait. *bumps so it will be easier to find tomorrow night when I have time for entertainment reading*
