I know technically it's not a conflict but

pretty important event nonetheless in Europe.

Most Irishman in the Union army were fooled into enlisting. The army would set up recruitment tables on the docks and fool the immigrants into thinking it was mandatory, I'm sure some used the experience to rebel against the Brits, but it wasn't a major reason for Irish in the Union army.

And a lot of the American-born Irishmen refused to serve, even though there were conscriptions. How odd.

Exactly, in addition to the fact that Canada would have been easier to defend if the British weren't distracted.

Yeah, in fact there was a rebellion in New York city because of the draft. It was mostly due to the fact that only the poor were being drafted, while the wealthy could just buy their way out of the draft. If you've seen the film Gangs of New York, that was a secondary story in it.

Thats a tall claim, do you have any proof whatsoever that they were draft dodging sailors, or is this just some biased BS you think is true but have no supporting evidence for?

Not all of them were draft dodgers, but the majority of the impressed sailors were British expatriots. The fact that they had become American citizens gave the US credibility. I cite eleventh grade history class from a Bulgarian history teacher. Apparently the Bulgarians have the world's best history ciriculum. There were a small number of born Americans impressed, but they were a smaller group than the British borns. The point I'm making is, however, that the war wouldn't have happened if the British weren't fighting the French.

So the British were impressing U.S. citizens working for U.S. trading companies? Well then, I'd say the U.S. was justified.

Same thing, innit? Although there might be another one, the one I'm thinking of was from 1857-58
