A question about population.

Postby Sungai Pusat » Fri Jul 16, 2010 6:20 am

How many people do you think you home land will grow into in the next 100 years?

In my guess, if Singapore's current population grows at its rate, Singapore will have 10 million people by then, double the population now. Also, Singapore will have about 6.05 million citizens while there will be 3.95 million foreigners, almost quadrupled from 2010 stats.

OOC: The population figures I mean is combining foreigners and citizens.

Why would anyone want to move to Singapore? Isn't that the place where gum is illegal? Hong Kong seems like a better option, or Taiwan.

That said, I really don't know how many people will live in the U.S. My guess is that the population will at some point slow down in its growth as world population growth slows. The exact number elude me, as I really don't know too much about population growth.

Germany reporting in.

Stagnating or slightly shrinking, unless immigration explodes.

AFAIK, gum is legal. What's illegal is spitting it on the sidewalk.

I just read an article about how Europe's population is shrinking, with countries like the U.K. being in better shape than Greece. The United States would be in a similar predicament without immigrant from places like Mexico. It seems like Europe needs to allow more immigration into its borders, even from Muslim countries. However, unlike in the United States, European nationality rest primarily on ethnicity. That's a real predicament, and Nazi style population growth programs would be a little too totalitarian.

America will probably have around 550-800 million people.

Wikipedia wrote:The chewing gum ban in Singapore was enacted in 1992 and revised in 2004 and 2010[1]. It bans the import and sale of chewing gum in Singapore. Since 2004, only chewing gum of therapeutic value is allowed into Singapore following the United States-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (USS-FTA).

A common misconception among citizens is that personal use of chewing gum is allowed into Singapore. However, according to the set of Regulations, "importing" means to "bring or cause to be brought into Singapore by land, water or air from any place which is outside Singapore ..." any goods, even if they are not for purposes of trade. The set of Regulations also does not make any provisions for personal use of quantities to be brought into Singapore. Therefore, bringing chewing gum into Singapore, even small quantities for whatever purpose, is prohibited.[2]

USA has 310 million people and a 0.97% growth rate (https://www.cia.gov/library/publication ... os/us.html).

Therefore, assuming this stays steady (ridiculous assumption for 100 years). Our population would be 310x1.0097^100, or 814 million people. Nearly half of the growth rate is made up by immigration (i.e. w/o immigration, we'd only have a 0.545% growth rate). If we were to cut off immigration chances are the birth rate would decline as well, simply taking out immigration, the forecast would be something like 530 million people.

In the U.K at the moment the population is still rising, which is a bad thing.
It's putting a strain on our infrastructure and especially our NHS with the rising population.

France will have a smaller population...probably.... this is their growth rate
0.525%

considering that it doesnt change within the next one hundred years we'll be around...67-76 million people? Somewhere around there
their current population is around 64 million and 62 million in the metropolitan areas...

I think the Italian population will drop to about 50 or 55 millions from the current 60 M, as the immigrant flux will continue, but second-generation immigrants tend to have a lot less kids than the previous generations.

In 100 years, New Zealand's population might even breach the 5 million mark.
Maybe even 10 million.

Ok, I wil try to forecast populations for a few other countries.

China will have 1 billion people in 2110 because of the birth rate drop and death rate increase, while India's population might double or even triple in the next 100 years.

For your enjoyment, PDF of the Census Bureau's projections up until 2050: http://www.census.gov/population/www/pr ... ment09.pdf

They have a nice graph on page 7. Basically their range for 2050 is between 400 and ~460 million. The higher end estimate would come pretty close to my 800 million if the trend was to continue another 60 years, the lower end at about 640 million.

At this moment, Juli 2010, Andorianus has 41 million citizens. (note: that's the in-character population, the main page of my nation says 600 million or something, but I don't believe that would fit in a small and rocky country like Andorianus. So instead, I pretend we only have 41 million since that's more realistic.) Because of the muti-cultural background of Andorianus, we do not expect this number to rise, nor to fall. So in say, 30 years, we are expecting the number to slightly rise to 46 million citzens.
