Oh, did I offend you much ? How about this - I don't really care if he indebted the United States; I hate him for being the typical American Jingoist who's showing off by installing puppet dictatorships or removing such that do not suit him; actually his heavy support on the MAD strategy is a reason solid enough for this guy to be truly hated.

The Monroe Doctrine expressed that the United States would not allow Europe to further colonize the America's anymore, and should anymore colonists push for independence, the United States would support them. With a flimsy start for the United States to start off with, the idea that the colonists should pay for a war that had protected them at great expense to their mother country,
it doesn't really set up logically. It would further be used to snatch land up from Mexico during the Mexican-American war.

I remember having the thought of killing everyone so that we could have a quiet utopia. An idea in an of itself is harmless, it's the intent and carry-through that matters in history. Like, FDR may have been a dick to his wife but that doesn't change some of the good things he did. Historically, we have to balance the good versus the bad things that they did and of course, 'good' and 'bad' are ambiguous of the times we analyze them from.

It would further be used to snatch land up from Mexico during the Mexican-American war.

Indeed. It's hard to find any historical figure who was a saint.
