I've lived in the same area for my entire life, and I've noticed a drastic change to our winters. When I was a kid, we used to have tons of snow every winter. Tons and tons. I remember one particular winter we got hit by a huge blizzard. It pretty much shut down the county for a few days, it was at least 3 feet of snow. Nowadays, it barely ever snows in the winter. Maybe a few inches over the course of the entire season. Some winters it doesn't snow at all.

It really put into perspective for me just how real and damaging climate change is. It makes me sad; I miss the snow.

I kind of like snowy winters too. It makes the changing of the seasons more meaningful when you spend the winters snowed in and then you get long summer days where everything is green and flowering and the sunlight lasts late into the evening.

Meanwhile Washington still hasn't gotten rain, which is basically keeping this fire nearish me burning for the forseeable future. They predicted by October it'll be out unless it rains...and its just not. We've honestly had an unusually sunny September. A lot of the times here it hits September and then non-stop rain. This year? Not so much. Wouldn't be shocked if the 90 was one of the warmest September days on record, and its still been mid to upper 70s, with some 80s the last few weeks. And still barely any rain in sight.

Edit: Mind you this is after a slow start to ANY nice weather. We had almost record breaking rain from April to June.

Quick PSA announcement to any of our NSers living in or around Florida-if you're not aware (and not watching Accuweather 24/7 like I am because I become an armchair meteorologist during hurricane season), Hurricane Ian is forecast to make landfall as a Cat 2-3 hurricane sometime tonight or tomorrow, possibly into Thursday depending on your location. PLEASE communicate with anyone living in or around the Florida Coast to obey any evacuation orders, and to get to another state or to higher ground if possible. Traffic coming out of Tampa Bay is already looking very worrisome.

Make sure you have the following, if you plan to evacuate:
- Irreplaceable documents.
- Non-perishables.
- At least a week's change of clothes.
- Toiletries (hygiene becomes incredibly important to mental health during a natural disaster, believe it or not)
- Phone, charger, a reliable way to communicate with others. You need to let people know you are going from Point A to Point B.
- Food, supplies for pets.
- Good shoes, or good boots, or both.
- Non-electronic things to do (coloring books, books to read, card games, board games, etc.)

Heed all tornado warnings if they are placed over your area! Don't stay in a trailer if you can help it! Get to a sturdy shelter, get to a sturdy room not next to windows, or to a storm shelter.

This thread isn't just for discussing Hurricane Ian but rather current Hurricanes or historical hurricanes.Usually storms like these happen so often I thought we could make them their own thread. for reference Cyclones and Typhoons are also included in discussions on this thread. Ian was bearing down on my hometown and my parents but I woke up to see it's turning further south. Tampa Bay has been stupidly lucky to avoid a direct hit for so long.

I kinda miss hurricanes. Mostly the build up, not the aftermath of being without AC in Florida September.

It's been a boring hurricane season. I'm originally from Florida and even I didn't think about it all summer.

Recently my nation was hit by a Catagory 5 Saffir-Simpson Super Typhoon Noru or Karding here locally. The Rapid intensification that the eastern coast of my nation experienced was seemingly odd in my observation and perspective, this rapid intensification immediately boiled down to rapid de-intensification and passed over Luzon in a weaker state, so it was weird having a Signal No. 5 Alarm during a sunny day even though the path of the storm goes somewhat directly where I currently live. Current stage of Typhoon Noru is a Category 2 Tropical Cyclone that's battering Vietnam.

Considering the amount of Super Typhoons we have experienced the past half-decade, how do Floridians or any of the Gulf states prepare for an incoming Super Hurricane? Usually here in the Philippines we just... chill actually. Its become such a common occurrence that we no longer give much thought about it unless its absolutely necessary, specially those who are on a direct collision with the super typhoon.
