Let me describe it as this. Imagine you posted to me but your post didn’t appear in thread until two hours later.

I remember the occasional weird time lags. The post would appear long after the discussion had already moved on, and when it did eventually appear the other folk in the thread would be like "what the hell are you talking about? Who are you talking to?"

I'd have to say one of them was when the number of nested quotes was limited to 1. I still have flashbacks to the gargantuan quote pyramids that used to form before that was implemented...

It is to save Arch from getting overworked, he saw pyramids in his work life, he did not need them in his private life too

I do think though that in hindsight it was one of the best things that they did, because the forums would be an incomprehensible mess nowadays if that'd been allowed to continue.

I know more about pyramids than most people posting in these forums, and I can state with some degree of confidence that NS quote pyramids were but transient passing moments in the greater glory of humanity's ability to build a lasting true pyramid.

I’ll always remember how NSG came together to try and save a poster’s life. It was an amazing thing to watch.

Yes. NSG lost Dyakovo and Ashmoria a couple of years ago. I think other sections of the forum have lost posters as well.

Well there was a time when Banana Kid was a thing and always flooded the forums with his threads and there was also that one time someone posted R rated pictures after the RWDT and LWDT got shut down... I had to stay off NS for hours because of that.

The thread where it all went down in 2011 was moved to the locker to protect the user's privacy. Basically what had happened was a well-loved member of the community at the time posted what was suspected to be a suicide note. Close friends from Nationstates were able to coordinate with one another and along with site staff as well as the US consulate in Mexico to help his IRL friends and family to track him down before he could follow through. The user has since left the site due to personal troubles, I can only hope wherever he is now that he's doing better.

I remember one of the founders of an ancient and at the time longest-running RP thread in the NS forum passed away unexpectedly several years ago, leaving his fiance devastated. No idea what happened to Der Fuhrer Dyszel after she CTE'd almost a decade ago, unfortunately.
