Indirectly, but parties can change their leaders when they want to.

This does not apply to the PM tho...

Baltenstein wrote:Isn't Rome's current (smokinlgy hot) mayor also from the 5 Star Movement? How has her government performance been so far?

She is. She has had a lot of troubles during the first months (she couldn't manage to get a, let's say, "Minister of Finances" for Rome... and Rome is HEAVILY in debt...), but now it seems everything calmed down. But we will see. I would not, however, go after her as winning card: I would rather choose Turin's mayor...

It's a good article. Italy's constitution seems to be in need of reform but the consequences of a No vote should not be exaggerated.

It's a good article. Italy's constitution seems to be in need of reform but the consequences of a No vote should not be exaggerated.

Our consitution does not need reforms: we did not have to enter the Euro, and we should not have removed major worker rights. We could still reform it only in a few parts to make it better, but we do not NEED a change

The voters nominate parliament members. This, in 2013, resulted in a PD majority.

The president thus names a PM appointee (from the majority party) and puts him to scrutiny to parliament. This is how every PM has been chosen ever since the Republic became a thing.

In further news, President Mattarella has stated he's not making snap elections happen under his watch, due to the shenanigans revolving around our electoral laws.

As Risottia said, we're likely going to see another PD-led government purposely chosen to make reforms on that matter.

Yup, that's how it happens.

And the reason why many are angry with Renzi is that he did not have any kind of legitimation, as he was not even a candidate to become an MP...

For that matter, here in Australia, we have rather a few - and at senior levels, too!

I'm pretty worried about how this referendum has completely emboldened the Five Star Movement and North League parties, this was 'Brexit' all over again, uninformed voters shooting their own country's financial system and economy in the foot, except the Italian economy is in much worse shape than the British. I just hope Italy doesn't eventually see huge gains for anti-EU political parties in the near future, although that appears inevitable by now.
