But on the other hand, the concept of sugary drinks completely baffles me. You cant even dissolve the amount of sugar a coke can has in 355ml of water. It is so unhealthy I have difficulties to understand why people tolerate its existence.
But hey, it's not the only thing that dosent make sense in this world.

Coke has its uses: there's permanently a can of it with my first aid kit, for example.

It should be quite high to have effect, since sugar drinks are quite cheap: it should be fixed to at least 50%.

I'm a sailing instructor. A large percentage of the time, if I'm doing first aid on someone, they've swallowed gallons of lake or river water in addition to whatever else they've done. Coke is just about the strongest bacteria-killing substance that you can drink and not do serious damage to yourself.

This sounded interesting so I looked it up.

Might want to opt for wine, olive oil or maybe even tea instead, though it could always depend on what you ingest. Lake or river water isn't restricted to pathogens you find in food, but given Coca Cola's apparent lack of bactericidal properties I'm not so sure. Maybe its effect on the stomach itself may help, but I'm not sure there's a direct effect.

Huh, interesting. I have it on good authority from the actual experts that it does work, but I might try some of those. I feel like giving wine to kids might be a tad harder to explain, though.

The best thing we can do now is try to curb the issue before it gets completely out of control.

Not really. Healthy food for a family of five where I live is roughly the same as an equivalent lot of fast food, sometimes more expensive.
Healthy food isn't just quinoa and gluten free oats y'know.
Good old cabbage, rye bread, spaghetti, peas and carrots etc. is dirt cheap.
