The Qur'an has a whole bunch of fucked up shit in it, so yeah, if you go just by the classical literature, its a very non-peaceful religion.

Very few muslims, almost none really, follow every bit of the Qur'an, as a whole we're (yes I'm a muslim) a pretty peaceful group of people. Muslim empires have done shitty things, but so have christian, jewish and secular empires.
Also, with a religion of 1.5 billion people, you can't really generalise with accuracy, because Islam and the many interpretations of it is not a monolithic entity, its a constantly evolving, subjective set of beliefs.

It is almost comical what an awful human being Muhammad was, like when he ordered the murder of a 120 year old man named Abu Afak simply for reciting poetry against him, his cruelty and malice were so over the top it's a little funny.

Actually, Al-Islam is defined by Allah (SWT) and should stay that way. Anything added that isn't permitted by Allah (SWT) or the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) is bid'ah.
Also, we Muslims have to follow Shari'ah.

It's a little bit disingenous to only consider the words of Jesus when looking at Christianity. Lots of violence by Christians was justified by the Old Testament, which of course was not abolished by Jesus - "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."
