There is that, but they lack the branding of 4chan. If 4chan goes down and one of those other chans rises to prominence, then they'll run headlong into the same problem 4chan is dealing with; more traffic and costs than they can cover via advertising since advertisers are going to be leery about being associated with that sort of content.

Okay for reals though, I'm not surprised (Youtube went through similar drama except they were closing off revenue for 'controversial' topics) as in the end a good chunk of websites and their creators/owners need money, so business is business.

Ad-revenue is restricted by personal agendas of corporations, and corporations have a PR to uphold. Last thing they want is to be associated with a) horse porno or b) a flaming nazi. They want publicity, but the kind that keeps the average Joe coming back for them undeterred by association.

In the end this bears very little on myself, but if the /pol/ train comes I'll be disappearing for a while. I already have to deal with bullshit through my tumblr, One serving of bull with a side of aesthetic posts and art is good enough.

The /b/ right now is just a hotbed of transporn and "Blacked" posts. /x/ Is largely the same community of wishful thinkers and attempted spooping. /pol/ is Shitpost, the Shitpostian, the Shitposter has come. /his/ is six people arguing variations of "Hitler Did Nothing Wrong" and "American History is a Lie". /gif/ is the same as /b/, just in mobile picture form. /wsg/ is all attempts at being cute or edgy. /co/ is tumblr-lite. /aco/ is the same four threads all day every day.

All that said? Just because the community isn't always the best in the world, I'd be sad to see their safe haven taken away from them.
