I disagree with the assertion that its how everyone treats every culture, but its reason to be upset because their culture and heritage is important to them, and misrepresenting that, especially for monetary gain, is definitely something they would want to prevent.

I am not saying they don't have a right to feel upset. I am saying that their emotional response is not in line with reality and that thus they do not have a genuine grievance.
Thus they have a right to feel that way but not a right to expect anyone to accommodate their feelings.

It seems like a pretty tacky costume idea. The skin-colour-as-a-costume thing has always seemed pretty tasteless to me and if the tattoos have a legitimate sacred meaning then it seems pretty rude to make a costume around it.

In recent news, Disney has pulled a children's costume from the upcoming film "Moana" over complaints of "cultural misappropriation".

And the whole 'it's kinda blackface-esque' thing. Don't forget that in your urge to get your anti-PC point scoring.

In my opinion, it's ridiculous that child cannot even wear a costume depicting someone of another ethnicity, lest someone find it mildly offensive. If they had made the costume white, there would have been cries of racism.

Yeah. If they had made a costume of a Polynesian character look white, that probably would have been a bit racist.

If they didn't make movies about other cultures, they'd be racist. What is Disney supposed to do?

Welcome to corporate America, where ethnic values are treated like crap. It is not racist in anyway, because it's a universal problem. It's just that you only get outcry when it's a non-white group. As I mentioned above, businesses have turned this into this. They also seem to think Irish dress like this and that Scots look like this.

It's disgusting, it's insensitive, and it truly should stop. But it should apply to all Ethnic groups, not just a select few.

Insensitive, sure, but do you actually find it disgusting? Seems like a bit too strong a word. Appropriation of culture is something that has always happened, for as long as different cultures have interacted with each other. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter.

Try to understand their point. In the West, people of colour including black and Pacific Islander people, have been subjugated and oppressed for centuries. There are still massive obstacles to people of colour, massive societal problems, that white people do not face. White people hold the position of power, still. White people have imposed 'white' dress on to those we subjugated; no one would take a black businessman that seriously if he were to wear any sort of traditional dress. So, it must be hurtful and annoying when white people show no respect for culture, merely dressing with aspects of it they find appealing. The idea of cultural (mis)appropriation is not a viewpoint I agree with, but I do think it's understandable.

Well Aladdin doesn't have full-body tattoos, so there is no need for it.

Yep. And so it's hard to make a good costume out of it. Doubly so for children. Which is one reason why it shouldn't have been made in the first place.
