I don't think so (I don't remember 100% of it tbh).

I'm pretty sure the absinthe with enough of the hallucinogenic drug to make you hallucinate is banned. They limit it under the law.

I've heard of that. That said, I know variants of moonshine deep in Appalachia, when not regulated, can make you hallucinate in a petrifying way.

Okay, I think I can answer both. Here in the States, Tokaj/Tokaji/Tokay does NOT come cheap, especially at higher puttonyos (sweetness levels), but it can be ordered over the net at most high-end wine vendors (post scriptum...I just found some relatively inexpensively at Wine Direct. I'm sure wine.com would also work, but it MAY be more expensive). As for the Green Goddess, most modern absinthe, not just in the States, must NOT contain significant amounts of the compound thujone, which comes from the traditional wormwood component of the drink. Thought to be a mild hallucinogenic, thujone is also seen by some as the compound responsible for the sickness found in many longtime absinthe drinkers of old, though studies show that it's not particularly harmful in small quantities and that it may have been the extreme proof of the alcohol that was actually to blame.

For vine my great passion is Amarone specifically. Barolo, various Cheatau's in France produces some excellent specimens.

My more beloved poison nowadays is Whisky. Favourite is easily Cadenheads Campbeltown products. The 33 year old single grain and 29 year old single malt are simply unrivalled even compared to more expensive products. Though, Asia, specifically Taiwan and Japan, are producing some absolutely fascinating new samples. I've tried a couple of their recent world winners and while still not superior to the above stand strong on their own merits.

Oh, and I still got something of a sweet tooth so drinks are fine by me.

Out of curiosity, did you hallucinate? I've never tried absinthe, mostly because I don't know how the hell I'd obtain it, but I've heard horror stories.
The horror stories you're hearing are probably not from the thujone and more from the sheer volume of alcohol drunk
In british colombia, where there's no legal limit, you can get the stuff with the most thujone that can be gotten into it. That said, alcohol by volume is very rarely below 60%, reaching up to 80%, and that latter stuff is just death and anise. Or is it alcohol and death? Just death and death, really. Not very pleasant stuff, to be honest. If one is committed to having a go at seeing a green fairy and drink accordingly, they're far more likely to see the inside of a toilet bowl close up.

Why not?
Better than ethanol, or at least slower-acting as a "toxin".

That is how ya drink, get past the gag first, afterward you wont have to worry. ;)

Also, who here ever tasted authentic, old fashion brewed beer?

I mean like the shit they did in the 1800s, that means the beer being warm too.

Absinthe is legal in the US, but it absolutely cannot contain any of the wormwood extracts that are reputed to cause the hallucinogenic effects. I've had some (hated it, to be honest), that I bought from a North Carolina state liquor store.

Speaking of drinking alcohol, anybody make their own? Beer, wine, distilled spirits where legal? I'm a homebrewer myself. Just finished a batch of IPA that's bottle carbing now.

What type of tea? And do you have time to talk about our lord and savior coffee?

Speaking of coffee: to the caffeine fiends out there, how do you like your coffee?

Hot or cold?

With or without crème? How much if you do?

With or without sugar? How much if you do?

Do you add anything else to your coffee? e.g. Honey, cinnamon, whiskey, etc..

Any other form of coffee you like? e.g. Starbucks, Boston Stokes, etc...

As far as I am concerned, the only excuse for the existence of coffee is as a base for Irish Whiskey, homemade whipped cream, and brown sugar. Teas, on the other hand, are the top of the pyramid of hot drinks. My personal favorite is Lapsang Souchong, a strong black tea with a pungent aroma. For everyday, a good Irish Breakfast blend will suffice.

I mail ordered (can't remember from where unfortunately, but it was somewhere out of Europe (Yugoslavia?), a bottle of Absinthe, they had three different grades (amount of wormwood I would assume), I ordered the mid-level, mostly because of cost, I also ordered a bottle of Marijuana Vodka. They sent it in a box marked "medicinal tinctures" (LOL), both were meh unfortunately.

BTW my drink of choice these days is Bourbon neat, and I only drink it on days that end in Y...
