The US justice system is worryingly bad at killing people properly. Firstly they keep killing the wrong people (IE unarmed civillians), and then when they do manage to get somebody through a trial onto death row they probably won't be executed, and if they then manage to get the poor sod into an execution chamber there's a fair chance they'll totally fuck it up and leabe them to an agonising demise, or even fail to kill them completely.

That too.

But if the marriage was much more than political, she probably would've ended it years ago.

Or maybe she wanted to try and fix the marriage and not end it at the drop of a hat.

  1. Cops shoot people too often, that's bad and should be reduced ... though Federal government intervening in local and state policing is contentious.
  2. The long delay on death row is due to further avenues of appeal specifically for capital punishment: this is something opponents of the death penalty have achieved to reduce its use.
  3. The failures of the (previously humane and reliable) lethal injection method is again, something the opponents of the death penalty have achieved, only in this case it was drug companies who refused to supply drugs for execution

I'm opposed to the death penalty, but I'd feel like a hypocrit if I said "the US is bad at it and should give up trying". The very reason US governments are bad at executing people is the partial success of opponents like myself.

Gentrifying the inner cities won't make the urban poor any less poor. It will just drive them somewhere else.

The "servants entrance" for welfare tenants was something Trump actually did ...

I know, I know, nice things don't end poverty, but still...a nice beautiful apartment paid for by the Feds would be a nice place to live in.

I did not know that Trump specifically did that, but I had heard of such a thing. Truly despicable.

That's actually the plan for Detroit: Deny them water, then send in Protective Services to haul off the kids and the elderly, then condemn the properties, bulldoze the houses, give them to developers under eminent domain at pennies on the dollar, and let those developers build the kind of shiny new gentrified all-white city that the folks living north of 8 Mile Road would like for the "New Detroit" to be.

Kind of like New Orleans without the hurricane: A 21st Century version of the Trail of Tears, only sans Oklahoma ("We don't care where you go, but you can't stay here...").

Perhaps, but there is the sensation of falling, helplessly, knowing how it will end, that is experienced by the executed. Maybe it's no worse than getting injected, but it is worth considering.

How about just shooting them in the head? Not sure why we need to spend so much on doctors, nurses, medical supplies, facilities, electricity, and the lethal injection chemicals when America is so gun-overflowing. And if they are shot in the correct section of the brain, they'll hardly feel any pain.

The parts reserved for the poor of course will see jack shit in terms of quality and maintenance.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

Gentrifying provided slight decreases in the poverty rate of those living in gentrifying neighborhoods, while those that didn't gentrify saw 7% increases in the poverty rate.

US General Election Thread III: Clinton vs. Trump

Postby Alien Space Bats » Mon Aug 29, 2016 5:54 pm

A couple of questions for Donald Trump fans:

  1. The ENTIRE Texas-Mexico border runs along the Rio Grande. Indeed, it is legally defined by treaty AS the centerline of the Rio Grande. So, will we build the wall on our side of the river, their side of the river, or right down the middle of the river?

    1. If we build the wall on either side of the river, how do we guarantee irrigation access to both the US and Mexico, as required by treaty?

    2. If we build it right down the middle, how do we anchor the damned thing properly?

    3. The course of the Rio Grande actually changes from time to time, particularly when a hurricane or a powerful tropical storm roars in from the Gulf of Mexico and floods the region. Indeed, the border has been known to move a couple of miles at a time in some cases. What do we do with the wall when that happens?
  2. Donald Trump promises to get rid of so-called "sanctuary cities". Since these cities are simply cities where local ordinance forbids police from using (read "wasting") municipal resources on immigration issues (which are properly a Federal matter anyway), and long-standing Supreme Court jurisprudence actually gives them that discretionary right (Prigg v. Pennsylvania, 41 U.S. 539 [1842]), how on Earth is the Federal government going to actually compel them to cooperate with DHS/INS agents when the law clearly permits them to say, "Hell, no!"?
