Why?

Because the unit of measure shouldn't be dependent on whether the abbreviation is written in uppercase or lowercase.

Mostly the Romans, who defined it as a thousand paces, where each pace is approximately the length of the average Centurions foot times 5.

The fact that we're still using a systems of measurement that the Romans used is a little scary.

The metric system is so much easier to use, but I can't help but use the imperial system by instinct due to my many years of thinking in miles, pounds, and yards.

But yeah, we totally should.

Someone mentioned earlier how we use the metric system for more universal ideas such as medicine and other things. But to change basic measurements that we use everyday would take a toll on america. It would cost millions of dollars to change all the roads and laws and standards that depend on our current system. We would also have to change our teaching programs for the most part. Not to mention it would call for most americas to have to be retought measurements as many of the people already working or about to be working would know our current sysytem, while the new generation would only know metrics

In theory, yes it would be easier. But having so many ml of beer just isn't the same as ordering "a pint".

So why would be ordering beer by ml? I live in country that's adopted metric system and I don't think I've heard anyone ever order beer by anything else than pints. :p

Or at least evolved form of that. :P

And I do believe despite sharing same name, not all Roman units are same as US customary or British Imperial they share name with. :P

Is it any less arbitrary than the original definition of the meter (the distance traveled by a pendulum in a one-second period)? The advantage of the metric system is that it is decimalized; the actual length of a "meter," however, is just as arbitrary, and has changed as many times, as anything else.

Its really not needed, you so rarely have a need to use multiple units in day to day life, and where it counts medicine engineering, and the like it is already used.

When you drive some place you do not think of how many miles, feet and inches it is you think about how many miles it is leave it at that.

A liter is more than twice as large as a pint. That's reason enough to convert to the metric system.

Well if it's tap beer, that propably wouldn't make sense.
I guess it's more reference to pint as a object rather than pint as a measure. :P
