Let's say the aliens do a surprise attack. If our country was able to survive the attack, We would begin mobilizing our whole military, and strengthen our conscription laws. We would also have all cities and towns form militias that we would train, supply, and arm. We would begin coming up with plans and putting them into action on capturing the aliens' technology, researching it, and figuring out ways to make our own copies and mass-produce them. We would then begin making special anti-alien squads where there specific job is to destroy the aliens and assist all militaries around the world in fighting the aliens.

Could we survive? Maybe...

I dunno, I always imagined the apocalypse as a Dean Koontz novel like Phantoms or The Taking. A subtle invasion by a malevolent, invincible, and largely unseen entity or entities against which there is no immediately apparent defense or resistance.

In which case I would hide. Preferably in a sealed off cellar somewhere underground with no windows and as many supplies as I could gather. Eventually my luck will run out though.

I would survive a 5m rise in sea level simply due to the fact of where I live. I live in a city based in a mountainous area and if the sea continuous to rise I can just move to the Highlands.

When in the future we begin mining space stuff, to immediately dump what you got in gold because that market is going to crash.

If I had to choose an end of the world scenario, it would have to either be global pandemic or zombie apocalypse.

Though I guess it depends on how the pandemic is spread. If by same route via fleas or mosquitos carried the blood borne illness or like animals carrying the disease and is transmitted to patient 0 via bite or scratch and from there said patient spreads it to local community and onward? What type of disease is it? bacterial, viral, or some other infection?

Either way would be total shit, more so via fleas and mosquitos.

Same could be said zombie apocalypse and the way it is started, because with respect global pandemic and zombie apocalypse can be used in the same scenario (assuming zombie apocalypse caused by viral or even parasitic host in the body). Then again I am possibly over thinking this.

EDIT: Instead of infection, i'll take Nuclear Holocaust, unless of course you get nuclear holocaust combined with zombie plague-pandemic mixed with solar flare and super volcano eruption that blocks out the sun for years so now we are breathing in ashes and nuclear fallout... Which causes a climate change to more winter time causing mass famine.. I can dig it.

Anything involving disease or zombies is a big nope for me. I'd rather off myself at the start than endure that. Ultimately, if I had to choose, aliens. Even if they enslave/try to wipe out mankind, it's still alien contact.

So if you survive the whole apocalypse will any of you try, and start a new nation?

No point in resurrecting the U.S since it will be dead in a pandemic or whatever.

My husband and I love to daydream and fantasize about surviving in the post-apocalypse. He prefers a zombie one, where as I always preferred a Mad Max-style one. It's not something we really believe will happen, but it's a fun hobby to plan for.

I'd like to think I'd survive, especially given that my husband has some rudimentary medical skills. I think I'd become a scavenger or a raider, maybe form a raider gang called the Merry Band of Pranksters and become a heinous terror of the wastes.

Solar flare is probably the least apocalyptic, and things would be back to normal after a few months, where as the first two would be potentially civilization ending.

We'll far more pressing issues to worry about, methinks.

Like survival.

To start a nation, you first need a geographic locale. Then you need multiple people (plural). You need a system that ensures basic survival. If all that gets off the ground then and only then can you consider implementing universal policies and an administrative structure.

All this is leaving out currency, taxes, organised security forces, and diplomacy - assuming there's anybody else just as organised to develop mutually beneficial relations with.

Personally I'd very much risk going it alone if apocalyptic conditions were prevalent. As humans we are our own worst enemy, and desperate times make for desperate people. Find some place as far as away from the rest of humanity as possible and you'll also be less affected by the collapse or erosion of infrastructure and public services.

So no, forming a new nation is the last thing on my mind.

Typical of human arrogance to say "the end of the world". Is it so difficult to think that we'll just run our course as a species and end up extinct like so many others?
Anything short of blowing the planet into literal bits would not be enough to stop another species from rising to dominance.

That aside, a zombie apocalypse, however bizarre and unlikely would be a hilarious way for our species to end.
