Romans didn't have AR-15s.

Neither did the Goths.

For one, everything on the side of the Earth experiencing daytime would have their electronic devices destroyed. Nighttime side, not so much. If it hit America, it'd basically revert to a third-world country, but Asia would still be perfectly fine.

Also, that's a terrible time to live in. Not only could your nation be invaded, but literally all electronics would be eliminated. Cars? No can do, most modern cars are run by internal computers. Phones? Nope. Internet? Nope. Any form of communication short of smoke signals? Gone. Electricity out. No lights. No food preservation, either, unless you'd like to convert completely to iceboxes. It'd be passable in the daytime, MAYBE, but our world's become too "big" to be effective after a flare. Everyone's too spread apart now. We're dependent on electrical items now.

Solar flare is definitely the LEAST passable option. You go straight to the stone age. No thanks.

I'm not passing judgement for other options, but I just needed to clarify this.

I thought if a solar flare was to hit the Earth, it would wipe out all electronics on Earth. Maybe that's not the case, which would make an interesting scenario considering which country were sparred and those that were not.

To be honest I chose the solar flare option because its the least terrible. With a zombie/nuclear/climate change, the effects are everlasting and can't be simply fixed with human ingenuity. But with a non-electronic world, I at least reason humanity will be able to rebuild but if the Earth is +15 degrees hotter due to global warming or 20 degrees colder because of nuclear winter, there isn't much we can do.

You could take steps to avoid having your electronics fried. Farraday cages, simply wrapping your things in heavy duty mylar (you'd probably need multiple layers of stuff for this method) etc would greatly improve the chances of your electronics surviving.

Asteroid impact.

It would be quick, and I'm guessing the immediate destruction would be greater than a nuclear war.

We might have fun trying to blow it up, before it hits us.

What about aliens. Some kind of explosion sends primitive worm-like creatures to Earth. Oh nooo, so devastating.

For a zombie apocalypse, there's a museum near me that has functional full suits of plate armour, so I'd go there and suit up. I'd think that (other than disease) it would give you pretty much immunity from zombies.

Climate change or solar flare honestly.

I'd probably fare ok in a climate change apocalypse. A solar flare one even more so.

That's actually a really good idea. Better yet, wear chain mail instead of plates as its easier to remove.

You find a mace, a sword, and a spear. Which one would be best?

Probably the sword imo, spears and maces have their uses but I see a sword being more versatile.

Excellent choice.

A spear/lance/blade-on-a-stick is good for fending off with some degree of distance. But it requires some room to use.

A mace requires little skill, but it tires one out due to weight and it isn't really built for running around with. Endurance and speed is needed.

Swords are an excellent choice as it doesn't require too much space and it isn't as heavy.

I'd pick the sword as well. Practical for many situations.

Although one would expect that one brought more bullets so they could use the gun again...

Plus, where in the hell would you keep a spear when you aren't using it? Remember, it is supposed to be his backup weapon.

I mean by 'spear' I mean a one handed thrusting blade-on-a-stick. I mean you could carry it on your back with a makeshift 'holster' thingy???

tbh i was not sure where i was going with this

I would go for the zombie apocalypse thing, my family has a nice series of farms in an enclosed valley bout for hours north west of here. It's the perfect defensible position as it has a nice pinch point with a large stream that's the only ground access point, as it drains the valley into the local river system. Already has a nice little draw bridge over it. Just build a watch tower to keep an eye out and you're set. Fresh water check, fertile ground check, well stocked gun nut country folk check. Just gotta pack up some friends and go.

And besides farm work has a really appealing sense of wholesomeness about it.
