If you truly want to spare your blood pressure, it is probably better to take an extended leave from NationStates.

A valiant effort, but one that was doomed by default. This is NationStates General, after all.

It's not satire, it's commentary. Heinlein was quite serious in his libertarian beliefs.

Lol I love Donald Trump's reaction to some of the DNC speeches, it's funny how fragile his dinosaur-sized ego is and how easily he gets
butt hurt. His reaction was "I want to hit them so hard, I want to hit them so hard their heads would spin".

Trump's reaction:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQZpFbq4F38

He knows all the thing they say about him are true and has no retort which is why he instead rages and gets triggered and resorts to
violence.

To be fair, his reaction speech would have been a great speech if it was the Barbarian Era lol.

It's the Men of the World ~ (apologies to REM)

Postby Marylandonia » Fri Jul 29, 2016 10:00 am

It's the Men of the World ~ (apologies to R.E.M. for It's the End of the World)

That's great, it's a political earthquake
There's snakes on this aeroplane, Hillary is not afraid
Eye of a hurricane, Nixon did himself burn
Bush served his own needs, don't server your wife’s needs

Speed it up a notch, greed, blunt, no, strength, no
Matter, structure splattered with fear of whites, non-whites
Liar in a fire, reinvent the hunger games
In a government for hire and a fat cat sleight

Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with those stories
Breathing down your neck
Scheme by scheme, reporters baffled, Trump, tethered cash
Look at that's insane, fine then

Uh oh, overblown, nomination, in the loop
But Bill behave yourself, troll yourself
Bush served his own needs, listen to Trump concede
Tell McCain was captured and the Democrats in the light, light
You vitriolic, Putin sonic, scam, site, fist fight
Feeling pretty psyched

It's the men in the world and we know it
It's the men in the world and we know it
It's the men in the world and we know it
And I feel mine

Six O'clock, tweeting hour, don't get caught in Trump Tower
Slash and burn, return, Donald did himself burn
Lock him in uniform and book burning, tax cheating
Every motive escalate, our middle class incinerate

Fight a scandal, fight a motive, step down, step down
Watch conceal blush, blush uh oh, this means no fear
Play by ear, renegade and smear clear
A tourniquet, a tournament, a torched event of lies
Offer me delusions, offer me conservatives and I decline

It's the men of the world and we know it
It's the men of the world and we know it
It's the men of the world and we know it
And I feel mine
It's the men of the world and we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the men of the world and we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the men of the world and we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
And I feel mine

The other night I slipped a nice presidential gift inside
Mount St. Reaganite, get down Jill Stein
Hillary Clinton, lemme loose and presser gangs
New Ferrari, no brakes, ready scream, doom
You symbiotic, patriotic, damn redneck, right? Right

It's the men of the world and we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the men of the world and we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the men of the world and we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
And I feel mine

He was, but that wasn't a libertarian society in the book. The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress described a fully libertarian society, and Stranger In A Strange Land delved deeper into social libertarianism. I can't find the quote, but he once said that if anyone said that any one of those books was their favorite of his, then he'd avoid them. If they said that two were their favorites, they might be able to have a conversation. If they mentioned all three, then there was a chance that they actually had some insight into how he thought.

Ah, nice :)

Not completely, there were several levels of access, and the details of where you could and couldn't go changed day by day, likely for security reasons.

The first pass let you on the mile long perimeter outside the arena itself, with a few restaurants, the parking lots, the HUGE media office tents, all sorts of shit.

The next let you wander the hallways of the arena itself, though you couldn't go to the floor, and only had access to certain balconies.

The next gave a little more leeway, but no floor access.

After that, there was the actual floor pass.

And so on and so forth, with various special passes for certain special classes of people.

Also, cops EVERYWHERE at events outside the grounds, like the convention center (forgot the name) that was a few miles a way. They (the convention center) served alcohol, soda, and popcorn for free after 6pm though, with a giant theater that played the convention live on CNN, which was cool after a long day's work. All assuming you were a delegate or press, or something of that level.

As for the grounds of the Arena itself, Secret Service was literally everywhere. Bomb sniffing dogs, metal detectors and x-ray machines before you could enter (naturally), and just groups of dudes in body armor roving the grounds. Let alone the plain clothes agents.

And you couldn't take a bus back to a hotel until they started running at 11pm+, but you couldn't get there as media any later than 1pm+ by shuttle. So if you were there, you were just fucking there. Walking literal miles from the dropoff location just to get INTO the arena. And there was NO space for parking, paid or not.

It was a city in a city, and all-consuming until you actually left and realized you were back in the real world. Thank god its only every 4 years.

New PPP poll out today of 1276 Likely Voters taken 7/29-7/30:

General Election: Trump vs. Clinton PPP (D) Clinton 50, Trump 45 Clinton +5

General Election: Trump vs. Clinton vs. Johnson vs. Stein PPP (D) Clinton 46, Trump 41, Johnson 6, Stein 2 Clinton +5

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/ ... 302016.pdf

Decent bounce.

View of Putin and Russia:

7% of Americans view Putin favorably to 69% with a negative opinion and only 14% see Russia as a whole favorably to 52% with a negative view.

By a 47 point margin 5% more likely, 52% less likely voters say they're less likely to vote for a candidate if it's perceived Russia is interfering in the election to try to help them.

Also by a 26 point margin 9% more likely, 35% less likely; they're less likely to vote for a candidate seen as being friendly toward Russia.

Also 33% of Republicans polled thought Hillary has ties to Lucifer and by 66% to 22% think Hillary is a bigger threat to the US than Russia. Too much AM talk radio has gone into these peoples heads.
DEFCON 1

Clinton/Kaine 2016

It is the solemn and patriotic duty of all true Americans to prevent the election of Donald J. Trump as the next President of the United States by use of the ballot box.
Even if it means you might have to be called for jury duty!
