ESV is pretty decent. Apart from Young's Literal (which is almost unreadable) and the King James though, I haven't seen any that actually translates tenses correctly. Most translate the present tense use (especially heavily in Mark) as past tense. See, for example, Mark 15:21.
I guess people just wanted to make it easier for people to understand.. Sometimes it is good to read it in Greek
