Good luck with it - if you're headed to the Des Moines area, I might even see you around. I work with the folks at the mission office now and then, mostly with the farewell videos. (Its a thing they do for everyone returning home - kinda nifty.)

Correction: That's the first opportunity to choose to serve one. It isn't mandatory. I've never, neither has my husband. My sister and both brothers have though. And I work with several older couples who are serving as couples - people can do that for a number of positions that have more to do with service than with sharing the gospel with others. In some areas, due to the laws in place, service missions are all that can be served, actually.
