As stupid as this is, even if -in theory- it were a good idea, the government wouldn't be able to do it, unless they want to make cars cost far more than they do now to pay for it. That, and would be another step to getting rid of a free market ('cuz they'd have to force car companies to do it). Oh, and ignore the fact that it'd cost a whole lot of money the government doesn't have.

1. The government mandate that all cars be installed with mandatory tracking devices. This allows the police to monitor the positions of all cars and their speed at any given time. This is to deter speeding and ease the administration of speeding regulation for the public good.

While that is a good idea for capturing repeat offenders of traffic violations, it certainly is not something that people who actually follow road laws would actually want to be subjected to. As such, this idea should not be enacted.

2. Cars should also have a mandatory auto-lock system that requires a breath-analyzer to unlock and activate. This way, if you are drunk, you can't start the car. The car cannot be started except by a sober party and it is a criminal offence to try to game the system. The policy could save tens of thousands of lives potentially.

This option, however, is one that I fully support - As long as cars can be programmed with the proper technology to make this work without fail. Would hate to have the car malfunction and not allow completely sober people into the car because the program had an error or something.
