One does not become an economist out of nothing. I personally dislike his policies, but he is not as economically illiterate as people believe. Giving your people what they need, poor and otherwise, simply seems normal to me. The fact that America hasn't implemented fairer school and healthcare systems is simply disgusting for a western nation, I would say.

Mostly the people who can already afford to and historically paid much higher taxes than they do now.

Well, we could always put a tax on higher incomes, which so far not every single GOP candidate has touched.

Gee, I wonder why they haven't touched the rich incomes over a million dollars eh?

Yeah, he's a little "angry old man yells at cloud" sometimes, but he knows what it's like to be actually poor and to be a middle class American. He doesn't consider it a hardship that he had to start out with only a $1,000,000 loan.

This is one of the reasons I want New England to secede. It would get the government down to a more reasonable scale and make it possible to return to a representative democracy in which representatives can make themselves accessible to the common man on the street. Under the current system, congressional districts are so large that it's simply impossible for congresspeople to listen to and address everyone's concerns. When you write to your representative and get back a form letter instead of a personal response, it's not their fault. It's because the constituency that they are being asked to represent is unmanageable.

we should totally double the size of the house of representatives. maybe triple it. maybe sextuple it.... 100,000/rep would be around 3000 reps eh?

Firstly, how is Carson unelectable?

Secondly, political parties shift on spectrums. Nobody would've expected a Socialist like Sanders. Tea party is just a new movement, like the progressive party in a way.

That would create its own problems with managing debates within the House. It might be an improvement over the status quo, but I still like the idea of an independent New England.

You'd better believe I'm a bitter Bernie Sanders supporter. The Dems fucked up and fucked up hard. Hopefully they'll learn that neoliberalism and maintaining the status quo isn't the way to win this election or any other one. I doubt they will, though.

Given how much Senators are paid annually (I think $120k) if Bernie was no longer a Senator he'd be making about a third of $180k or so. Still upper middle-class, but not wealthy.

This.

In state and local elections, where the turnout is often lower, they are doing very well indeed. You can say about their crazy voters what you want, but those people actually show up to vote. The teabaggers are motivated, motivated to destroy the country and motivated to vote.
