Men's shoes and clothes are certainly more comfortable and practical, in general.

And female protective footwear for industrial settings looks little to no different than the men's... only made for smaller feet.

So last night my grandma (who's visiting from out of town), out of the blue, stumbled over trying to call me her "grand...person". This morning she apologised for having misgendered me a few times yesterday.

My grandma apparently knows I'm trans. What.

I guess my mom told her? I mean, I guess now it saves me the trouble of having to do it, and that makes it easier on me, but I kind of wish I would've been the one to do it.

She also disclosed (while trying to explain why it's hard for her to adjust) that my cousin prefers they pronouns. I also happen to know that this cousin's brother is queer. And another cousin of mine was the first to introduce me to the concept of asking people for their pronouns, even if I didn't really understand it at the time, and I think she might be a bit queer (although she has a boyfriend).

Apparently this family is super fucking queer. xD

Well I mean function is way more important than form in those sorts of settings, and feet don't really have any sex characteristics. There's no reason for them to be different.

I wear size 9.5 US mens and size 11 US womens.

Could be much worse, but I still wish I had smaller feet.

I just want to wear cute shoes, goddammit ._.

I have small feet and, believe me when I say it is a bitch to find shoes in the US as most shoe stores start the sizing at size 6 for women. If you're a size 5 like me, you end up having to shop at the kids' section and honestly... nothing says adulthood and womanhood quite like having to use pink glittery tennis shoes with bows when you're in your 30s.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking that small, lol. I just want ever size lets me wear the most shoes.

Aren't their niche stores/markets for women with smaller feet? I know there are some for women with larger than average sizes.

So there's an LGBT+ group in my city that meets every fortnight for dinner and coffee, and I went along last night, on the invitation of a colleague of my mother's. it was ... okay, I guess? I'm not the most scintillating social butterfly, so I'm not sure how much I get out of such things, but everyone was super chill. Also mostly at least a decade older than me. It does seem that I'm in the blind spot between 20-something party kids and 40-something wine-and-latte people. Coming out at 30 is awkward. But then coming out at any age is awkward probably.

It's also hard for me to relate to people's relationship woes, since I'm single by choice and likely to remain so. I'm not precisely asexual - I experience sexual desire and all that - but I have very little interest in seeking sex or romantic relationships with other people, so I guess I'm effectively asexual in practice.

In other news, I've seen my GP to get her to refer me to the endocrinology clinic. Next step will be to make sure that that referral has been sent and received ... and then wait for three months until I can be seen. Bleh.

My sister called me to ask why our mother wasn't answering her phone, to which I replied my usual "I dunno.", and afterwards, she asked me "Why were you asking about makeup the other day? Are you insecure about your gender? I'll love you regardless."

To which I replied "UUUUUUUUUUUH, I THINK MOM IS FREE RIGHT NOW, YOU SHOULD TRY CALLING HER AGAIN."

I think She's onto me. On another note, I order my boots and a new shirt to go with my skirt. I just need to find a nice coat, and get my damn glasses >.<

I have found a place which does laser hair removal. $42 a session. Am I being ripped off?

I don't know what currency you're talking here, or what qualifies as a session, or whether your hair and skin colour are at all ideal for laser hair removal ... but that seems very cheap to me! To put it in comparison, I'm paying one hundred and eighty for half an hour or so to do my full face and neck, and that seems about average price wise in NZ.

The place only does face, there is a place that does neck but does not have a good reputation compared to the other one.

I can't speak to how much facial hair you might have - it's possible you don't need it - but personally I couldn't not get my neck done. I mean, I have to shave it daily, and the whole point is that shaving is an imperfect and impermanent solution.

I believe their lasers may not be strong enough or this is a one-off sale price.

Apparently, my Sis told Mom about me being into makeup and asked if I was hiding something. My Mom looked at me and laughed. "Like she thinks I know anything about what you do or why you want to know about makeup. I don't care what you do, as long as it's not something bad!"

I expected at least some suspicion on her end, lol. My family is really laid back. Good times. Anyways, I definitely get my glasses tomorrow. Might go on a shopping spree and go for makeup as well.

Learned this morning my mom is getting something engraved for me and I may be changing the spelling of my chosen name for one more s inside. But I see it as if people are intuitively going to write Marissa, I might as well take the spelling and run with it. I can't wait to encourage people to call me Rissa.

Hey, whatever you want. It's your name, and if you're fine with the double s, that's cool. :)

That reminds me: When my grandmother was visiting this past week, she was telling me about some old jewellery of hers and who she was thinking would inherit it. I actually tend to get a bit sad when this topic comes up, and this time was no exception. Because I'm AMAB, I always get overlooked when the women of the family are passing on their jewellery to the younger generations. I imagine that my mother has corrected this in her will, since she's mentioned that she updated it sometime in the past year. (Previously, her jewellery was set to go to my female cousins, with the possibility of a small amount going to any daughters-in-law or granddaughters she might have in the future.)

Anyway. My grandmother was talking about a locket from when she was young engraved with her initial (which is an M), and how she gave it to my cousin (whose name also begins with an M) because they're the only one of her grandchildren with an M initial. It made me even more dysphoric than these conversations usually do, considering that my chosen name has an M initial. Oh, well. I guess it's not that important.

UK reports on non-binary people's experiences, based on large surveys. I haven't read through it all yet, but it looks really interesting!

Also tips for service providers and employers on how to be more inclusive of non-binary people, based on the results of the surveys.
