How would it give parents peace of mind? There was story not too long ago of a mother complaining to a store employee that there was a grown man in the restroom with her little girl, and the employee told the mother to stop being such a bigot.

It would give parents peace of mind for two reasons:

1) increased traffic almost always means less chance of a crime. You don't see people shanking each other in a plaza do you?

2) A parent can enter the restroom as the person of the opposite sex they are going in with. This is an issue brought up many times in non-transgender unisex restroom talks, that parents would feel safer about their child because they would be able to go into the restroom and accompany them.

Also... gay men go into the men's toilets, and gay women go into the women's toilets...so aren't people already sharing the toilets with people who are attracted to their gender? I think you're maybe over-rating just how desperately some people want to see other people pee.

Don't forget the safety it gives to those who are disabled or who need help going to the restroom. It means the person who is their caretaker (often their spouse so often the opposite sex) can also no questions asked accompany them into the restroom to help.

Having cleaned restrooms before, I can tell you that, in my experience, the women's rest room is much nicer and gets cleaned much more often than the men's.

Well that depends on what you're looking at. Use? you want more stalls. Efficiency? You want more urinals. At rates of 2:3 for both.
