For the record, this movement is not one of hate, like some may claim. It is not hateful to encourage people to be happy, healthy and beautiful. In fact, we’d go as far as to say the opposite: It is hateful to want people to be unhealthy, and to try and make people think that such a thing is okay.

I normally wouldn't care either way, but Thinner Beauty is generating a lot of topkeks from the Tumblr/Buzzfeed/Huffpo/etc crowd's buttrage. So as a result I approve.

I'm don't agree with Michelle Obama on a lot of things, but I think that trying to press healthy eating and exercise into the minds of the public was a great project, and I'm sad that it apparently hasn't worked nearly as well as I'd hoped.

Not necessarily, it's more complex than that. Obesity is unhealthy in many cases, for sure, but simply being "fat" (which is a pretty vaguely defined word) is not necessarily unhealthy.

Let me put it this way: If you can't go for a decent-length jog, or go up three flights of stairs, without breaking a sweat or huffing-and-puffing, then you are unhealthy. Yes, it's entirely possible to be obese without dropping dead, but that doesn't mean that you are healthy.

Actually, it's perfectly possible to have a normal/underweight BMI but have excess body fat (which puts you at the same health risks as someone who is obese) or have an overweight BMI but have healthy levels of body fat (which does not carry the same health risks).
Again... it's not as simple as you might think.

Except there isn't, unless you're going to tell me that the body secretly absorbs matter through its pores.
If you want to lose weight, you have to lose the calories stored in the form of body mass faster than you consume additional calories stored in the form of food. If you're not losing weight, it's because some part of that equation isn't being fulfilled.
Matter can not miraculously created by virtue of being alive. If you are putting on weight, it's because you're either eating too much or exercising too little. There is no third option. Even people who have disorders can overcome the weight-gain caused by those disorders through adjustment of their habits.

Water weight has nothing to do with calories, and there are conditions that can cause people to retain water.
