Hopefully they align themselves with the School District and distance themselves from the teacher, ideally by firing said teacher. I'm interested to see what the community the school is in thinks of this. I hope they'd side with A.B. and his mother, but given this is the community that produced the teacher, the other employee and the other student who was upset when someone else didn't believe in god, it's entirely possible they'll side with them.

No need to align with this or that. Everyone needs to sit down, take a deep breath and say, "O well, the kid doesn't believe in God. Let's go apologize to the kid and the mother." What it has become is a big issue. And what the school should do is defuse it and make up to the poor child.

Disgusting? No? Retarded? Yes.

Honestly, a lawsuit is being carried out, and this kid won't have to deal with this shit within weeks. The administration was retarded, and I "pray" that they're fired.

Odd, but that happens when parents indoctrinate their children to such an extent that they cry when realizing everyone doesn't believe in God.

The sooner such little victims of parental indoctrination get a healthy dose of reality, the better.

Here we go again, religious people forcing their lifestyle on other people.

While I agree that it is wrong to force it on other people, Athiesm is consistently forced on religious people.

Nobody is forcing anything on you. If you want your own religious values affirmed, go to a private school. Don't expect taxpayers to pay for the instilling of your religious values on you or your child.

Such as where?

For starters all public schools teach evolution and a Godless world. Note: let's not discuss the validity of evolution, because there are many arguments for and against. Then, there is the countless court cases where kids were expelled or warned for praying publicly or reading the Bible in the school. I'm not saying all Athiests support that, but I can assure you many Christians don't support what happened in this thread, including me.

Public schools teach evolution, yes.

Where do they teach the non-existence of a deity?

Every example of a Christian student being told not to pray or to read a Bible has resulted in an apology from the school itself.

I had a friend in school who brought his bible to class all the time. He was never warned about and he didn't get in trouble either. Maybe it didn't happen around there but there are rules against it. It's not that Christians are getting 'persecuted' it's just that religion is kept far away from schools. As it should be.

Note: None of my teachers ever said a hint of a Godless world or said there were a god. If anything the teachings of science from some of my teachers helped me belive more in a higher power.

Like answering a direct question honestly? Those bastards...
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Adult employees there sound like morons.

And the school district seems to paint itself as a bit assholeish by calling atheists 'a minority, no matter how small.'

I mean, really?

Just in case some of us were starting to think free-thinking would be okay here. S'not.

Evolution is science, hence why it is taught in schools.
