Shockingly, I don't believe it's relevant.

So america, who (as a country) never really liked soccer until now (because america is now really getting into soccer, since the FIFA world cup) now. We're also the first country to make the fifa arrested. Now Switzerland makes more arrest. If the whole world knew that the fifa commissioner and the rest of the people who ran fifa were corrupt, then why didn't they make arrest long ago?!?!?!? And not leave it too america?!?!?

Because football is a religion. We are hestitant to arrest its leaders, depite knowing they are criminals.

But if doesn't matter if you want to keep to the topic, which is about the arrest of FIFA officials, not about various individual clubs. Knock it off.

some of us here in america, soccer (football for the rest of the world) is our religion. We love soccer, we love the premier league, we love MLS, we love Liga BBVA. I'm one of those people. I also love football (or what the rest of the world calls egg ball, handage, a weak version of rugby, ect.) so much, it's like a religion. I'm getting off track here. Anyways, we would also not be hesitant to arrest a leader who is a corrupt criminal. While putting a none-corrupt leader in his (or her) place. When we american's really love our sports, we love it enough to force anyone who is a criminal, or is corrupt, out of that sport.

You know, it could be because there wasn't enough hard evidence of corruption in order to charge the officials until now?

Kindly explain how it was off-topic.

While ludicrous, what he said was clearly in response to what he perceives as an American-masterminded arrest plot for FIFA officials.

Given his was a one-liner and given his tendency to take the thread in other directions, it seemed worth a comment. Perhaps it wasn't. My apologies.

Rejoice. A bit of relief.

A second of five later - questions about the future. I'm not sure if this is just the end of Blatter or the end of Blatterism.

The news of Blatter's resignation almost makes up for the news of Charles Kennedy's death.

Not quite, but almost.

Edit:

Blatter to Swiss TV this past Friday:

“Why would I step down? That would mean I recognise that I did wrong.”

Oh really?

How odd. That clearly wasn't planned given the sudden and fumbling organizing of the conference.

Good news, good news indeed.
"FIFA has been my life...what counts most for me is FIFA and football around the world," Blatter said. "An extraordinary congress is to be called to elect my successor as soon as possible."

"For many years we've gone to great lengths to administer reforms and of course these forms need to be refined as they are not sufficient," Blatter added.

Elections are expected to take place sometime between December and March.
