No he isn't. If you watch his show, pretty much everything he says is an example of dog-whistle politics - mischaracterizing the arguments of people on the other side to make it seem like they're pro-deadbeat, pro-terrorist, and "anti-American," whatever that means.

He has an unintelligent audience that buys into said dog-whistle politics. He's playing to the emotions of people that watch him.

Just look at the way he interviews. If he brings a liberal on his show, it's usually someone who's also not that bright whose views border on left-wing caricature, so that O'Reilly can easily cut them off and make them look stupid.

Anyway, this is clearly a bait thread, with OP calling everyone who doesn't agree a "leftist," which is an incredibly politically charged word to conservatives. Just wanted to throw in my $0.02. The only way you could call him "intelligent" is that he's smart in the sense that he knows exactly what will get his viewers riled up.

That's why he brought on Jon Stewart, Bill Nye, and Bernie Sanders right?

You watch any debate there will be a strawman, usually multiple, given by both sides. Also a lot of rhetoric, used everywhere, by both sides. These are debate tactics used by everyone not Bill's evil plan for neo-conservatism and the US to conquer the world.

Most people who dislike O'Reilly would naturally be leftists, am I wrong in this assumption?

A couple of comments basically sums it up:

"Why does anyone agree to be interviewed by this guy? Everyone must know that the minute they start talking, he'll just shout over them. He's more playground bully than journalist."

"Bill O'Reilly interrupts each and every one of his guests so frequently, that they should just stay silent, let him ask ten questions, and then put the answers on twitter immediately afterwards! Any takers? No need to mention me."

"O'Reilly asks questions, but he doesn't care about the answer. He's there to present his perspective, to override anything that a guest might say that doesn't maintain the status quo -- his status quo.

This is not journalism. This is not an interview. This is a hit piece. At best, it's piss poor "news." At worst, it's downright unethical."

That video didn't make O'Reilly look bad, if anything it made him look incredibly competent as he got out high power questions to his viewers that Ron Paul didn't adequately answer. That's a political pundit doing his job right, he's not there to paint the facts hes there to scrutinize high profile politicians and showcase the political philosophy of his viewers.

Ron Paul spewed out several cliches, name called O'Reilly, and said nothing to address what would happen if the US left the theater.

Your comments listed are practically the only "attacks" that can really be placed on O'Reilly, he's loud and obnoxious. That's really it.

He started off asking good questions, but some of the comments are correct. He tends to cut off answers and then his fans believe that the interviewee was dodging them. Bill asks if leaving the theater would leave the option to hand off nukes to terrorists by Iran. Ron Paul begins to answer, Bill cuts him off. Bill states his opinion (again, I might add), asks Ron Paul. Ron starts to answer, Bill cuts him off. Rinse and repeat until it gets nasty. Guess what- we never really got what Ron Paul's answers would have been because Bill O'Reilly kept on cutting him off. "Because you're not directly answering the question!" how the hell do you know if Ron Paul was answering the question or not when you cut him off a sentence into it?

His interviews with people he has disagreements with are the worst thing on his show. He does what others do also in terms of strawmaning views night after night so he can tear down not the real views of people he disagrees with, but the pretend, fantasy views and implications of them that he instills in his viewers.

Of course, THAT isn't Bill O'Reilly's fault. That is the fault of news punditry across the board and it is why news pundits are the worst thing in the history of news media post-Spanish-American War. He just gets the extra hate because he was one of the first and one of the best at it.

When I try and watch Fox for my dose of conservatism I usually chose him since out of everyone their he's possibly the most sane aside from Shepard Smith who is the best as far as Fox News comintators go.

I feel the same heh, but what about megyn kelly?

She's a cunt. She is the female O'Reilly turned to eleven without the journalistic effort. I'm pretty sure she's just the new line up of female anchores Fox is putting out to try and be more diversified but Kelly is not a good example of a female news personality. As far as females on Fox News I prefer Harris Faulkner.

Considering 90% of American politics is firmly in the "rightist" playing field and we have no real socialist movement to speak of, I'd say no, most people who dislike O'Reilly are center-rightist liberals.

Leftist is relative, in American politics it would be center-rightest liberals who are leftist. Though America does have a repulsive but popular democratic socialist movement going on behind sanders.

It's all just rabble-rousing nonsense. There's a few basic points I and most people can agree with. Universal Healthcare + free education + higher minimum wage. But we can get all that under hillary. The rest of the nonsense would be an irrational and isolationist foreign policy, protectionism, a step away from free trade, and more anti wall-street rhetoric that solves nothing.

Yet there is no denying that, in terms of the full political spectrum, which exists in much of the world's democracies, American politics is firmly centre-right to right-wing, with some fringe movements expanding into other areas. With that said, there really is no properly left, or even centre-left, present in the States.

I actually agree with a lot of this. Although I'm sure you won't appreciate the fact I like Sanders for the most part, the biggest question mark in his platform is undoubtedly his views on trade. Protectionism doesn't get you anywhere.

I think the banks need to be prevented from wildly speculative investments that partly caused the recession. I'm not in favor of cutting them off at the knees, though.

Agree. The word "socialist" has been so overused and adulterated in our political discourse that no one even knows what the hell it means anymore.

Sanders would be considered centre-left in most developed nations. But the right wing here tries to paint him as some super-dangerous radical. Call me back when he wants to nationalize most of our industries, then we'll talk about who's dangerous.
