Perhaps because most powerful people get that way either by inheritance (i.e. monarchs) or being scumbags and any who don't are likely to be corrupted once they get their?
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Obviously I have no rational delusions about assassinating a world leader on another continent, but his party/administration's hate for LGBT people I most certainly return to him in kind, however impotently.

It's okay to hate people, such as Putin, when you use that hate to do something about it. When you don't, it just builds up and it's unhealthy. I'd recommend either not hating Putin, or working to reduce homophobia.
