Ankle socks go with sneakers and short pants. Long socks go with sneakers and short pants if you are playing at sports since it helps reinforce your lower leg. Generally speaking, wearing light colored medium to long socks in the summer, that is if you are wearing short pants, helps prevent mosquito and other insect bites.

Knee high and thigh high socks are definitely better but short socks for when I workout and such or am wearing pants.

Depends on what I'm wearing. For the low top converse I wear most of the time, I'll wear socks that often don't reach my ankle. If I'm wearing tennis shoes and plan on spending more time outdoors doing something, I'll oot for mid-sized socks. I'll only wear high socks if I'm wearing boots or formal wear, but it's rare even then as I tend to just wear leggings or stockings in their place.
