Short or Long Socks?

I like the socks that cover up to the ankles. Shorter socks just seem to come off when I run too much and they don't seem to protect my ankles from rubbing against the side of my shoes, which is why I usually wear socks. As for long socks, I just don't like how it looks like having socks cover half of my leg or lower leg. I have good legs, rather show them off if I decide to wear shorts.

They should be long enough to reach above the tops of your shoes unless you are wearing tall boots. I don't like when short socks slip down inside the shoe.

The socks I wear can be placed in three distinct groups. Crew socks, quarter socks and explorer socks. They are the only socks required.

Long socks, definitely. I usually wear boots, so that's a given. Unless it's summer and I'm wearing tennis shoes or slip-ons, in which case I do the whole Sonny Crockett and eschew them entirely.

I prefer no socks as you cant wear thongs with socks but with shoes I prefer short. My school's socks for boys are long and they get hot andf they look ridiculous

Okay, so I've just put on a new pair of socks. I really don't like them. And do you know why? They're those really short socks that you have when you want to wear socks while wearing short trousers.

Long socks all the way. I also hate short trousers.

I used to HATE short socks. Like, they really drove me nuts because they felt so weird, always preferring middle to long socks instead. But recently, I haven't minded short socks after getting used to some I have.

Still, give me middle to long socks after short socks any day.

Middle sock are my personal choice, but your free to wear whatever you feel like.

(Short socks feel strange, and long socks are too warm most of the time where I live.)

EDIT: I should clarify that in my head, "long socks" are ankle-length socks, and short socks are those awful things that only cover the heel. As a male I didn't even think about knee-length socks. Outside of sport uniforms and certain kinds of formal dress (Highland dress for instance) I can't think of any situation where a man would wear them.

I wore long white tube socks in the 80s when they were in fashion. However, these days, I wear dark socks that are of a more medium length.

Long socks are the near exclusive domain of sports or school uniforms. They're pretty much weird outside those contexts.

Ankle socks make people look stupid if worn with trousers. They also look odd when worn with shorts because you get: shoes, leg, shorts. This is less noticeable with women because they tend to have smaller feet.

Socks that are on the calf? Well, there are theoretically socks that get worn a little above the ankle but I never really notice those so I guess I am apathetic. Then you have the non-ankle and non-long variety of sports sock which are a bit higher but not to the extent or work and business socks. These are okay but, again, don't really notice. Work socks are made for people who wear boots to work, which isn't me. Business socks all day, every day. Unless I don't need shoes (sandals are not easily acquired for the likes of me*), in which case, yay.

Oh, and yeah, preference for dark socks. Deep navies, dark greys and black. Especially black.

I much prefer my hobbit-esque feet to go un-sockèd, personally. But, if the situation calls for it, long or short socks will do (mediums are maddening), provided they are not white.
