China is a theocracy ruled by atheists. That has probably always been true. The rulers are not, absent another revolution, going to abandon the premier place in the world they have won by adopting free markets, but I also very much doubt that China has abandoned the instinctive collectivism of three thousand years in a single generation. I can well see a consolidation of China in the 2030-2050s as a stagnant middle income economy, somewhat akin to a very populous Belarus.

Am I sure wether they are telling the truth about their ideology? No.

It's almost for certein that they are lying about one thing or another, but I'm also quite sure that they don't live up to my ideals of capitalism.

Mao's vision was "Fuck You All I Want Power" from about 1955 to his death. While I do agree with some of his very, very early ideas, he became completely corrupted by his own importance. Deng only served to stabilize the country after Mao killed a large amount of the populous, screwed up the economy, and generally terrorized everyone else.

In response to the original question, "Is Socialism with Chinese Characteristics complete bull?", I would say yes. It is simply a name that the CCP came up with to cover their transition to full on Capitalism. Mind you, they were never actually communist in the first place; they were more of an agrarian populist movement that slowly turned more towards a Stalinist dictatorship. I don't trust their party doctrine because, well, if they no longer know what socialism is, how can we trust any definition they set forth for anything?
