Eh...ambivalent.

As an Irish-American whose dash of English blood goes back to Guy Fawkes' co-conspirators, and whose ancestors fought against the British Empire in at least four wars, I don't exactly come from a long line of Anglophiles. Having travelled in England and Wales and met no shortage of British expatriates here in the States, the majority of British people I've met are rude and obnoxious enough to give New Jerseyans like myself a run for their money.

On the other hand, I read British newspapers religiously and enjoy British television (not Dr. Who, mostly the old BBC comedies). I also exclusively use British spelling conventions. Politically speaking, I admire Britain's tradition of limited government and a strong civil society, as well as their inclination towards euroscepticism.

British toddlers are complete boneheads aside from that kid who has a huge IQ.

This morning, I was riding my bicycle down the street and a toddler went in front of me. He started screaming and his mum came running over. I had to flee the scene.

The UK as a country is absolutely lovely. Their government, alarmingly often, not so much... see Bliar and his being a faithful lapdog of Bush jr, Cameron and ...mostly everything, or the general British attitude towards the European integration process (quite the victims of a special snowflake syndrome).

Anyway, tea, crumpets, and the Doctor saves the day.

It has its problems, skeletons in its closet and I am concerned about where it will find itself as the twenty first century goes on. Regardless I love my country from Lands End to John o'Groats and over the Irish sea.

I may have bias on the people; the two places I've lived has had horrible people. But most cities aren't very good. Lincoln, York and Leeds are a few exceptions.

What cities have you been to? Edinburgh, Stirling, Inverness, Bath, Salisbury, Chester, Oxford and Brighton are all quite nice. We have no shortage of nice cities here.

In 1946, several the United Nations identified a number of Territories under their administration that were not self-governing and placed them on a UN list. As a result of the decolonization process in the following decades, more than 80 colonial Territories changed their status and were removed from that list. Today, the UN follows developments in the 16 remaining Non-Self-Governing Territories, 11 of which involve the United Kingdom: 10 of those are administrated by the UK.

I never thought I'd be one to defend Britain's record with colonialism, but those territories are all either tax havens with their own Parliaments that just rely on the UK for defence, foreign relations, and more funds; or uninhabited/barely inhabited islands like the Chagos Archipelago and South Georgia.

So having overseas territories is neo-colonialism. I assumed you meant it as "looking to take territory that isn't theirs" like Argentina is doing.
