Just watched the intro to "Journey to Babel," where Kirk offers Spock a chance to beam down and visit his parents and he says, "Captain, Ambassador Sarek and his wife are my parents."

Mr Nimoy lived long, and prospered.

He also made a lot of people very happy; his was a fine life worth celebrating.

We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. Something I've only just worked out...

When you discover "Priesthood" in Civ 4, Nimoy reads out the priestly blessing from Numbers 6:24-26:

"The lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace."

Which is, as it happens, precisely the reading made when Orthodox Jewish priests make the gesture that Nimoy - a fluent Yiddish speaker brought up in an Orthodox Jewish home - famously appropriated for the Vulcan salute.

I knew the source of the Vulcan salute - but until today hadn't connected it with that Civ 4 technology discovery reading.

I just saw that 5min ago .... Cool man, I can't say anything bad about the man I grew up watching him and took a little time doing the the vulcan hand sign as a kid mimicing the greeting . God bless him ...... Another great person is lost. His family has my respects :bow:

Probably. Given his age and the disease, after a certain point it probably became clear he wasn't going to get better, or at least without resorting to something such as surgery, which carries its own risks. COPD is the third leading cause of death in the USA.
