I agree. British English can be considered "standard" English because the UK is where the language first developed. As settlers moved to the Americas, Africa, and Australia, the local pronunciations and accents change.

I suppose. Did the American founders speak the English of King George?

From what I have read the "American" English was what England spoke along with the American colonists. The "British" accents apparently developed around the early 1800s or something like that.

From what I learned in A.P U.S History, the British changed their accents after the American Revolutionary War.

While it is fairly propagandist it has been proven that by federal law you can refuse to say it.

One example is at my school. Once the bell rings, the speaker turns on to say the pledge. The students will almost simultaneously stand up and say the pledge. So, they are conditionalized by the bell. Similar to Pavlov's dog experiments.

lol

For that to work there has to be reinforcement. They are not forbidden from leaving if they don't say the Pledge, and don't experience anything negative regarding it, so Pavlov doesn't come into play.

Skip to like minute 12-13. There was a time in England when it Americans actually held the posh and proper linguistic stereotype, people whom "spoke English better than the English themselves."

Bear in mind though, that in the 19th century the dialects on either side of the channel were still markedly distinct from the stereotypical dialects of today.

I was making fun of your failure to understand the difference between the words "conditionalized" and "conditioned," which you will soon learn actually mean two pretty different things, after you frustratedly pull up google in an effort to prove me wrong.

A weird american custom: Thinking we are patriotic for the USA, but deep inside I think we wish we were European or a great empire in Asia.

Excess patriotism

and

Lack of Patriotism Are both found here in 'merica land of the free.
