Difference =/= innovation

if there is even the remotest bit of novelty and the remotest bit of added benefit/value, its innovation (at the de minimis level)

innovation doesn't have to be technological

it can also be a re-arrangement or re-interpretation

Novelty =/= innovation.

+1 for excellent got metaphor, but piracy is the definition of a victimless crime.
Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.

Yes, it is. You have a serious inability to distinguish what's the difference between innovation and novelty. Allow me to simplify this for you so that you finally see why your OP and subsequent posts are just pure blah and unnecessary justifications.

Novelty: Something new.
Innovation: Something new and uniquely useful.

Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

Except when used in context of attending law school, implying that janitors are unskilled, uneducated occupation in comparison to would-be lawyers.

I'd hang out with a janitor over a lawyer any day. Ask one of each "what's the weirdest day you've had at work", and who do you think is gonna' have the better story? My money's on the janitor, nine times out of ten.

No, actually, it was stating the only way that Infected Mushrooms could get into law school was via working somehow for the school in some sort of manual labor occupation.

The idea of IM attending law school is about as likely as my left foot gaining sapience, building a Tardis, then transversing into a parallel universe where Game of Thrones is real and then saving Sean Bean just before he was beheaded, spitting on that creepy ass blonde kid king in the process and bringing him back here where he replaced the Sean Bean from our universe and no one ever noticed.

Because the timeline would have suffered if it didn't.

It is another wacky and strange thread by IM, but at least the only people I saw mention Game of Thrones was not, in fact, IM.

...Who seems to be busy misinterpreting the concept "innovation" in response to people who have, repeatedly, corrected his misinterpretation of the concept "innovation" instead. It is refreshing...

...But not very innovative.

I wonder which would have the weirder day: someone whose job is to talk to people from all walks of life, who came to that someone because of an incident of varying conditions; or a janitor who can expect to clean the same kinds of shit everyday.

Think of innovation or invention as something you could reasonably expect to obtain a patent on.

Think of creative expression as something that is inherently protected by copyright (as opposed to patent) law.

All movies (even the most stupid, ill planned, duds) fall under the category of creative expression and are protected by copyright law and I think this is what you are wanting to say.

That is to say, they are all creative to some degree but not necessarily innovative.

That's precisely it. I don't think he understands the meaning of ''innovation''.

I'll be the first to admit that yes, back when they were started to be shown, circa 19th century, movies were indeed an innovation. No one had done anything similar before with or without a camera. But right now? I would call certain producers/special effects artists/actors innovative, but the movie industry itself isn't innovative.

"The basic elements of the film industry, which combined are the film industry, are innovating, but the film industry isn't innovative."

Is everybody forgetting that the film industry isn't some monolithic organisation, and so it's the participants of said film industry who innovate, which means it's the film industry that's being innovated upon?

Not that he would understand, since he's deaf. Sure, a janitor would find weird stuff, but I assure you a lawyer has had at least one strange client with a strange case.

No doubt. I'm just saying "clean[ing] the same kinds of shit everyday" is not really in reality a janitor's life, which you would know, if you had ever had a real conversation with one instead of doing what a lot of people do: treating them like vaguely humanoid robots.

a text is a text, regardless of medium, the medium merely makes different forms of expression possible. In that sense, the experience of film is more all-encompassing than cultural mediums that preceded it, so it's pretty innovative.

I guess if ya'll care we could go after film/the film industry/the culture industry as an innovation in the field of mass manipulation

I rather suspect you're misunderstanding my post. Completely.

What I'm saying is that although particular individuals try and do innovate in the industry, that doesn't mean it (the industry) as a whole is innovative. At best, there is novelty. At worst, just the same plot elements with different actors.

If even one person in the whole is innovative, then the whole can be described as being with innovation.

Hence, it is an industry with innovation, hence movies are innovation.
