A useless, if somewhat enjoyable, distraction. Considering the amount of time, effort and material resource investment it usually takes to find a mate, the end result is simply not worth the trouble, and personally I just don't find sex to be such an important and exquisite pleasure as to bother with hiring whores as an alternative. Frankly I don't even get why many people find it so important.

While I won't pass an opportune moment to hook up, should one come by, a trip to the shooting range, a three-day boat trip or a good old pub crawl with friends is generally a much more worthwhile form of recreation in my eyes.

It depends on who's participating. It's only as meaningful as the relationship you have with whomever you're doing it with. It can either be a meaningful act of love or simply a means to achieve pleasure.

Most people who retreat into a more conservative mode are denying basic biological, evolutionary urges....and often do so because its a 'safe' cover for fears or insecurities. If you're not getting any, it's easier to 'protect' yourself with religious or philosophical clichés than it is to bust out and face your fears and poor self-image.

Humans differ from animals with the ability to control and resist those base urges. I think exercising restraint over them is therefore more human than indulging them.

In Argentina it is the same. The poor are not as well educated as the middle and the upper class. The types of clothes they were are different, they listen to cumbia, they speak in a more uneducated way and have less manners.. Not all of them of course, but quite a large part of the poor I would say.
