1.) We probably don't know the full story.
2.) I do have my doubts about the fairness of the trial, in particular because the fellow stabbed held an intel post in a country.
3.) The articles mention that he was stabbed in the back multiple times, after allegedly drugging her. The fact that he was stabbed in the back might have something to do with why her claim of self-defense did not get accepted by the court (much as defendants in the US claiming self-defense have had a harder job if they shot someone multiple times in the back). See again #1.
