Canadian Elections 2015 Poll and Discussion

Postby Alistan » Thu Oct 23, 2014 10:27 am

Canadian Elections is coming next year, and with Harper serving the last year of his Premiership, Canadians are deciding to vote for Liberal and NDP. But, Harper's intervention with America to fight against ISIS (political decision), it seems that his policy could hold sway of voters and Harper serving for the third term, and the recent attack against Canadian soldiers.

I can predict that the next year's election is a Liberal minority government, with the New Democratic Party as official opposition, Greens get more seats, the Bloc Quebecois are out of the Parliament with no seats, and the new separatist party coming over to gain a seat.

I plan to vote for the New Democratic Party because most of my beliefs are compatible with the party.

So, NSG, any thoughts about next year's election and which party to vote?

I really like the NDP's platform, ideals, and their leader, Mulclair. But, I find it likely that Trudeau will be Canada's next PM, and I'm content with that. He's better than Harper.

As a European as well as being English, I do hope that the New Democratic Party attain a similar share to the Conservatives, so that the Liberals under Trudeau keep to their promises and don't drift to the right on issues such as healthcare and education. It would be sad to see Canada become some sort of US-lite, both politically and economically, as being carried out by Harper.

The NDP seems like a cool Social Democratic party that helped build Canada up to what it is today, I'd probably vote for them.

I really hope you guys get rid of Harper, that dude sounds batshit.

I love the NDP's platform but I also like the Liberals and Justin Trudeau. I'd like to see a coalition Government of the Liberals and NDP (do those happen in Canada often?), with Trudeau as PM.

I really like the strong social liberalism of the Liberals(cannabis etc), and the social democratic agenda of the NDP. I think that a socially liberal social democratic government would be very good for Canada..anything to get Harper out.

If I was a Canadian I'd probably vote the Liberals, unless I lived in a constituency that had a Conservative representative that wasn't batshit crazy with making Canada into another America.

I'm not sure if this happens often in Canadian politics, but since it is a parliamentary system, if, say, the Liberals ended up with 40% of the seats, NDP with 12%, and Conservatives with 48% of the seats, would it be likely that the conservatives would form a minority govt or would the Liberals and NDP form a coalition?

If I were a Canadian voter, I'd have to look at my riding. If the NDP had any chance, that's who I'd pull my lever for. In Quebec, they probably wouldn't and I'd go BQ. If I was in a riding where those two parties had no chance, then Liberal.

Coalition governments are supremely rare in Canadian history, so it'd likely be a Tory minority government, but 2008 did see an abortive Liberal-NDP pact. I don't know if that would hold today.

No, I'd be endorsing the ideals of the old Progressive Conservative Party (may they rest in peace).

Well I won't be old enough to vote, but if I could I'd probably go with the NDP considering how they're the closest federal party to my views. But I don't like the direction Thomas Mulcair has taken the party in, of course as a marxist I'm not the biggest fan of social democracy, and I really don't like how the NDP seems to be adopting a more third-way position. However the NDP socialist caucus looks good.
If I was back in my home province of Quebec though I might go with Bloc Quebecois, even though I don't really agree with Quebec nationalism they're more left leaning compared to the other parties.
