You do know that introverts have, usually, a lot of problems with this statement of yours about the "natural order of things", which is a ridiculous way to put it.

Pretty much, as someone who pretty much falls under an ambivert nature.

I'm what you may call an "introvert" at times, when I am planning things and deep into introspection; but I also like going on parties and whatnot, go to social events/places, and mingle with people also when I have the chance.

Not everything is black and white and most of us who fall on the introvert scale even by a little bit are pretty extroverted as well.

What if you're the kind of guy who occasionally likes the company of others and occasionally needs some peace and quiet with himself?

Do my introversion and extroversion cancel each other out? Am I just a vert?

Exactly. There are introverted people who, in some facets of life, can actually socialize or express themselves more extrovertly. As you said, it's not black and white.

No, it just means you're ambivert.

Of course, it just depends how much do you prefer each.

I'm extremely introverted myself, but I recognize that it is not what most societies consider "normal" because to put it quite simply; extroverts comprise the majority of all people. That is plainly obvious to see, just as more people are right handed than left.

There are far more introverts than extroverts here.

I am extremely introverted. I find myself spending entire weeks at a time without any meaningful human interaction. Being around other people is a huge chore for me because I am painfully self-conscious of everything I do or say. I habitually avoid any type of social situation because of the anxiety it causes me and as a result I am quite lonely. I actually hate this about myself and wish I could be more extroverted.

What makes it even worse is that my true personality is to be extroverted. But I only let this exuberant side of myself come out when I am with my family. Around anyone else, even my few friends, I suppress it and mellow myself out. I am naturally a fun-loving and emotional person, but I constantly force myself to act disconnected, aloof, cold. I don't know why I do this, but I've been doing it for so long that it feels like my natural self even though I know it isn't.

I certainly have some of the same symptoms. I wonder if I should talk to a counselor and see what precisely is going on in my head, because it's not exactly normal and it's preventing me from getting the most out of my life. I'm 19 now, and I think it first started when I was like 13, so it didn't always used to be this way.
