Mate, how difficult is it to understand at this moment in time (19 October 2014) the region of Catalonia is officially part of the Kingdom of Spain?

Airport stopovers count for me if you went through immigration, left the airport, and have the stamp in your passport to prove it; only a couple of countries in my list come under that category, but they still count.

Airport stopovers don't count if you never left the airport.

All of which reminds me of another country to add to my list.

It does occur to me that some of this bickering over Catalonia, Puerto Rico, and the separate inclusion of Wales, Scotland and England on at least one list, could have been avoided if the OP had been a little clearer about definitions regarding nations v. states.

However, for the purposes of my own list, I only included independent sovereign nationstates, not regions (autonomous or otherwise) with some form of identifiable national identity that are nonetheless territories (however defined) of a sovereign nationstate. That gets a little knotty with the examples of Macau and Hong Kong, but I've done my best to clarify there.

I now expect bickering over the definition of "sovereign nationstate" following on from lists posted any individuals lucky enough to have visited Kosovo, Abkhazia, and/or Taiwan.

What if you stopped over a European country coming from another European country and didn't get your passport stamped?

If you're travelling to/within the European Union and hold an EU passport, then leaving the airport would be enough for me.

For example, last year I had a 6 hour stopover in Vienna airport, but because I was A) tired due to travelling from Washington DC to London the previous day and B) travelling business class so could use the lounge, I never left the airport. So this didn't count as a visit to Austria. But had I taken the train into Vienna for a couple of hours, that would have counted as a visit to Austria despite the lack of a stamp in passport (since I'm the citizen of an EU nation).

I've been to Austria previously, so the point's academic; but hopefully it demonstrates my personal rules adequately enough.

Are you kidding? It's a concrete jungle that I never recognise every time I go back. Literally. They move all the stores at least once a year (and more annoyingly, the washrooms) so it's never the same. Restaurants are always relocating. Singaporean law forbids a building over 40 years old to remain standing unless it's recognised as a state historical site. So they're never short of things to demolish. Want to buy a house with a yard? Forget it. Try an overpriced one room flat on floor #37, because they build "up not out". And you can never get attached to one place because in a matter of years either the skyrocketing rent or the structure's impending doom will drive you out. Old cars are subject to such prohibitive tax rates everybody is forced to buy new ones every three years or so.

And remember to thank God for the smog the minute you leave your taxi. Singapore has a distinct smell you won't forget - haze mixed with humidity.

There's nothing to see in Singapore. I do like the food, but then again I can get the same in KL. Long gone are the days of authentic local cuisine served by roadside stalls and friendly neighbourhood hawkers. They've all been moved into giant, overcrowded, and often fly-infested hawker "centres" by the government while the survivors are muscled by overzealous police with nothing better to do because the crime rate hovers near 0%. And that's only been changing in the past decade!

The attractions I used to like have now been over-commercialised to a ridiculous extent. With a few exceptions, parks are being bulldozed into prime development land aside from the few still directly sponsored by the state. And it's so crowded you can never get any breathing room. Unless you're there to gamble or see Universal Studios (which really isn't that great) it's a waste of time.

Besides Canada (I am 17), I've been to Egypt in winter 2002-03 (I was 5) and India in 2006 (8), both for about a month (and with my parents). Maybe Germany if you count the times I changed flights (both times).

In Egypt, I was in Cairo (where my grandparents on my dad's side lived), but visited Giza (we saw the pyramids, don't remember much) Alexandria, and I think Aswan and a few other towns. In India, I was in Bangalore (where they lived), but visited Mysore, Mahabalipuram, and a few hill stations, as well as passing through some towns.
